Jakarta The Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) invited the public to remain cautious and wise in using social media, as it is vulnerable to abuse and fake news or hoax and can trigger concerns.
Hence, Bureau Head of the Public Relations and Information System of MPR’s Secretariat General Siti Fauziah has invited all parties to participate in the social media wise campaign for upholding the nation’s character.
Fauziah stressed on the importance of exercising wisdom on social media since its misuse often led to the proliferation of fake news and slander that triggered concerns among members of the public.
“In fact, it can cause the public to pit against each other and end up in community splits,” Fauziah stated as quoted from her written broadcast received here on Saturday.
The social media wise campaign aims to prevent the misuse of social media, she affirmed.
She explained that being wise in using social media can make life and relationships between community groups more harmonious.
“No one is harmed while using social media wisely, and they will be benefited instead,” she stated.
Fauziah highlighted that Indonesia is home to various tribes and religions.
However, Indonesia also has a noble character built from the values of Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, so differences should no longer be a problem, she stated.
“The character that exists within those values needs to be manifested while using social media,” she remarked.
Fauziah believes that if social media users realize the values of Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, then the virtual world can actually be a tool that unites differences.
In order to realize it, she also invited the public to share the awareness of social media through creating twibbons that can be downloaded on https://s.id/netmpr.
“Let us use twibbon to participate in the social media wise campaign in realizing the character of the nation!” Fauziah emphasized.
