Police top brass reshuffle reflects COVID-19 challenge: MPR

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly, Jazilul Fawaid, said the recent reshuffle of three provincial police chiefs shows law enforcement measures amid the COVID-19 pandemic require extra effort.

Referring to the installation of new police chiefs in three strategic areas, West Java, East Java, and the Jakarta Metropolitan area, in a statement issued here on Tuesday, he said: “Law enforcement and ensuring discipline among the community in carrying out health protocols regarding COVID-19 are not easy. There needs to be hard work and special strategy to cultivate awareness and discipline among the people.” He also congratulated the three new Regional Police Chiefs, Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Inspector General Fadil Imran, the Police Inspector General of East Java, and Police Inspector General Ahmad Dofiri of West Java, saying that he was optimistic they will be able to build synergy with various figures to establish awareness and discipline in facing COVID-19 and its impact.

“Including success in organizing political events, rally security, and regional elections as well as economic activities amid the slow down in the community,” he said.

Earlier, the National Police reshuffled three key posts — the head of the Jakarta Metro Police, the East Java Regional Police Chief, and the West Java Regional Police Chief.
