Optimize use of Narmada SPAM in West Lombok: PUPR Minister

Public Works and Public Housing Minister (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono has called on operators to optimize the management of the Narmada Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) built in 2017-2018 in West Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

“The operators have to reduce the non-revenue water of the SPAM to be 20 percent in accordance with the standard,” the minister stated while reviewing the water supply system, as quoted in a written statement received here on Monday.

Hadimuljono noted that the government was currently working to increase the capacity of the Narmada SPAM by building the Meninting Dam that will be completed by the end of 2023.

On the occasion, the minister reviewed the water infrastructure around Mataram City to monitor the implementation of the optimization and rehabilitation maintenance operations (OPOR) policy in the PUPR infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Center of Settlement Infrastructure (BPPW) Ika Sri Rejeki informed that the construction of Narmada SPAM started in February 2017 and was completed in August 2018 at a cost of Rp52.6 billion.

“The SPAM aims to increase the coverage of drinking water services in Labu Api, Kediri, and Kuripan sub-districts for around 12 thousand house connections to serve around 75 thousand people,” she stated.

Development of the drinking water supply system is the ministry’s attempt, through the Directorate General of Human Settlements, to improve water supply services in West Lombok District to increase cost efficiency and optimize public services.

The Narmada SPAM, with a capacity of 150 liters per second, implements the latest Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology to increase water treatment efficiency.

The technology is a computer-based industrial management system used to control drinking water purification and distribution.
