OIC countries to join vaccine production training in Bandung

As many as ten member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are expected to join training in vaccine production here on November 16-18, an official stated.

“During this vaccine production training, we will discuss ways to produce safe and quality vaccines. Vaccine producing companies from the participating countries will be participating in the discussion,” the organizing committee chairman for the discussion, Rahman Rustan, said here on Friday.

Issues related to independence in vaccine making will be deliberated upon in several sessions during the discussions, Rahman, corporate secretary of PT Bio Farma (Persero), disclosed.

The OIC participating countries sending representatives to the event are Turkey, Pakistan, Tunisia, Malaysia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and Bangladesh.

In addition, officials from world institutions such as the WHO, UNICEF, the IDB, the Strategic Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SECRIC) based in Turkey as well as the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), based in Geneva, will also be attending the discussions.

“This is the second vaccine training program undertaken by the Islamic countries following the first one in 2015 in Iran,” Rahman reminded.

The discussion organizing committee will hold a limited meeting of the Vaccine Manufacturers Group on November 14-15, 2016.

Speakers will come from the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Health Affairs Ministry (MoH) P2P DG and the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM).

Speakers from the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI), the World Health Organization (WHO) and Bio Farma Jakarta, will also be there besides another vaccine manufacturing country, Senegal.
