No need for panic buying of fuel: Pertamina

State-run commercial and trading sub-holding PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has appealed to the public against panic buying, saying fuel stocks will be adequate until the 2022 Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

“The public does not need to worry about the availability of fuel during the 2022 Ramadan month until Eid al-Fitr,” communication section head of the sub-holding for East Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara (Jatimbalinus) regions, Arya Yusa Dwi Candra, remarked here on Thursday.

He said that his company has deployed the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr (RAFI) Task Force from April 11 to May 10, 2022, to ensure the availability of stocks and optimize the distribution of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The task force will monitor fuel stocks and their distribution at 19 fuel terminals, 7 LPG depots, 13 aircraft refueling depots (DPPU), 1,378 gas stations and Pertashops, 157 Bulk LPG Refueling Stations (SPPBE), 1,035 LPG Agents, as well as 46,161 LPG bases in the regions.

Candra estimated that the total fuel consumption in 2022 will increase since people’s economic activities are starting to recover.

He noted that the consumption of gasoline and LPG is projected to increase by 15 percent and 6 percent, respectively, compared to normal daily consumption.

Meanwhile, the use of avtur is expected to increase by around 36 percent compared to 2021.

However, the use of gasoil is estimated to decline by around 2 percent during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

Executive general manager of the sub-holding for Jatimbalinus regions, Deny Djukardi, assured that fuel and LPG will always be available at all fuel terminals and LPG depots for the next 20 days, thus there is no need for panic buying.

Consumers who face difficulty in obtaining fuel and LPG supplies can contact the Pertamina Contact Center at 135 or get in touch through the MyPertamina app.
