Muslims should learn Prophet Muhammad’s patience: Jokowi

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on all Muslims to learn from their role model Prophet Muhammad PBUH (peace be upon him), especially his virtue of patience, for coexisting with COVID-19.

The president made the statement on his Instagram account @jokowi on Tuesday to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad amid the pandemic during which everyone is left with no choice but to be more patient.

“This year, we commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad PBUH amid the pandemic that tests our patience as people of faith. Let us learn from the Prophet, who is extremely patient, has noble character, and puts his people first,” he remarked.

Referring to the Prophet’s words— “Whoever releases his brother’s troubles, Allah will release his troubles later on the Day of Resurrection”—, Jokowi urged people to raise their spirit of caring.

“With our caring spirit, we are able to go through this difficult time,” he highlighted.

The government had decided to move the commemoration of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday to October 20, 2021, from October 19, 2021, as a precautionary measure to prevent large-scale mass movement that will lead to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas had issued the guidelines for religious holidays in Circular of Religious Affairs Ministry No. 29 of 2021.

The circular prohibits any rallies for commemorating religious days that involve a large number of members.
