Mt Merapi erupts again on Friday morning

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Mount Merapi has erupted again on Friday morning at 8:20 a.m. local time, according to the Yogyakarta Volcano and Geological Disaster Mitigation Office of Yogyakarta.

The office tweeted on its official Twitter account @BPPTKG that an eruption, with an amplitude of 77 millimeters and lasting for two minutes, had created a six thousand-meter-high smoke column moving towards the northwest direction.

As the volcanos status remained on alert, people were urged to wear glasses, mask, and jacket while engaging in outdoor activities. Meanwhile, a radius of three kilometers from Mount Merapis peak is still off-limits for any kind of activity by civilians.

Earlier on Thursday, the office released data indicating that the level of Mount Merapis volcanic activities was relatively still high, with frequent tremors, both of tectonic volcano and multi-phase quakes.
