Buriram: A mother is worried that her baby was born 10 days ago and has a broken collarbone and a severe infection.
According to Thai News Agency, a 23-year-old mother from Sam Waeng Subdistrict, Huai Rat District, Buriram Province, sought media assistance after her daughter, who was born healthy with only jaundice, experienced worsening symptoms while under the care of doctors. The baby was born naturally at a hospital in Buriram Province on November 23, weighing 3,100 grams. Following birth, the doctor noted jaundice and an irregular heartbeat, necessitating the use of an incubator.
On December 2, the mother was informed by the doctor that her daughter’s right collarbone was broken, causing shock as the baby had been with the doctor the entire time. The mother asserted that she had never dropped the baby and was puzzled by the lack of explanation for the broken collarbone. The doctor assured her that the bone would heal naturally.
The situation escalated on December 3 when the doctor reported that the b
aby had developed a severe infection and was passing blood. The family was perplexed because the baby was initially healthy, apart from jaundice. The mother speculated that the collarbone injury might have occurred during delivery due to her inability to push effectively but questioned why the doctor had not conducted a thorough examination.
Ms. Petch, the child’s grandmother, expressed her initial joy upon seeing her healthy granddaughter and questioned the delay in identifying the broken collarbone. She demanded an explanation from the hospital. The hospital has scheduled a meeting with the child’s family to discuss the incident.
