Ministry takes 4 simultaneous steps to expedite digital transformation

Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate has concurrently expedited national digital transformation through four steps to bolster digital resilience.

“We cannot prioritize one or two agendas first. This must be done simultaneously or together. There are four important pillars,” Plate noted in a press statement, quoted on Wednesday.

To support the simultaneous acceleration of digital transformation, the government seeks to focus on four areas: developing digital infrastructure, implementing digital governance, utilizing the national digital economy, and building a digital society.

These four steps are taken simultaneously to strengthen digital resilience. “Let us continue to prepare ourselves to strengthen digital literacy, digital skills, and digital resilience of our nation,” he affirmed.

Information and communication technology infrastructure is a key prerequisite for reforming digital governance, the digital economy, and digital society. The existence of digital infrastructure will reduce the national digital gap and increase the ratio of internet connectivity among regions in Indonesia.

“In fact, internet must reach all villages in Indonesia. It must be able to connect everyone and not leave others behind. That is the main spirit that continues to be pursued through accelerating digital transformation through equitable distribution of digital infrastructure development,” Plate emphasized. The development of digital infrastructure must also be balanced with community development in utilizing the digital potential or the potential of the internet.

Adequate human resources will make the community ready to make the most of the presence of the internet and counteract the negative impacts that may arise due to the internet.

Indonesia needs an average digital talent pool of 600 thousand, with intermediate skills, annually for the next 15 years, or a total of nine million people, the minister noted.
