The Social Affairs Ministry has distributed assistance under the Family Hope Program (PKH) to 118,252 beneficiary families in Central Sulawesi Province.
At the assistance handing over event at Nipotowe Intellectual Disability Social Rehabilitation Center, Kalukubula Village, Sigi District, Central Sulawesi on Tuesday, Director of Children Social Rehabilitation at the ministry Kanya Eka Santi said that PKH assistance for beneficiary families in Central Sulawesi amounted to US$6.1 million, or Rp89 billion.
According to Santi, the ministry handed over PKH assistance of Rp7.4 billion to 9,943 beneficiary families in the first term in Sigi district.
It also distributed social rehabilitation aid of Rp525 million at the same event.
Meanwhile, House member Matindas J Rumambi said that the PKH assistance was aimed at improving access of poor families to basic services, including health and education.
“(So poor families can) utilize basic social services of health, education, food and nutrition, treatment, and help,” Rumambi informed.
He further said he expected the central and local governments to work together to ensure the distribution of social assistance is on target.
He then asked the related stakeholders to support the socialization of programs initiated by the government.
“As the community gains a better understanding of the program, challenges and obstacles that are encountered will lessen. Thus, it will be more efficient in terms of the social assistance distribution,” he explained.
On February 23, 2022, at the ILO Global Forum for a Human-Centred Recovery from COVID-19, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that Indonesia has distributed social protection assistance of up to Rp186.64 trillion to ease the burden on the community, including workers, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Family Hope Program is part of the social protection package.
“We have allocated at least Rp186.64 trillion for social protection,” Jokowi said.
