Ministry cooperates with Go-jek, Google to increase market access

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Director General of Small and Medium Industries of the Industry Ministry Gati Wibawaningsih confirmed her ministry is cooperating with online transportation app Go-Jek and Google to increase market access for small and medium industrial products.

The cooperation is established as part of the governments efforts in response to the development of e-commerce and technology in the industrial sector.

“Our small and medium scale industries (IKM) must update digital technology. This is important in the face of the Industry 4.0 development. Emphasis should also be laid on good financial management that produces standard goods, so that they could compete in the market,” Wibawaningsih stated after attending an e-Smart IKM Workshop in Surabaya, Est Java, on Thursday.

Wibawaningsih noted that the IKM should be able to utilize potential opportunities in the e-commerce market in Indonesia that is expected to reach US$46 billion, or some 52 percent of the e-commerce potential in Southeast Asia amounting to about $88 billion in 2025.

Some of the domestic marketplaces that have cooperated with the Ministry of Industry include Bukalapak, Tokopedia, Blibli, Shopee, and Blanja.com.

“In 2017, some 1,730 SME players had participated in IKMs e-Smart program, while in 2018, we are targeting to involve more than four thousand SMEs to enter into the online market through existing marketplaces,” she explained.

The director general revealed that until date, the business sector players that have recorded the highest sales through e-Smart IKM are manufacturers of mobile phone accessories and motorcycle parts.
