Military command, police check security preparedness in parliament building

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Commander of Jaya Regional Military Command Major General Jaswandi and Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief Inspector General M. Irawan are checking security preparations in and around the parliament building before the Saudi Kings visit, Thursday.

Jaswandi said his side has ensured security in the area of Indonesias House of Representatives to welcome King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud and his entourage.

“The security arrangements have been made well. Everything is well organized. We have checked the security arrangements in all areas of the parliament building, both outdoors and indoors,” he stated in front of the Plenary Meeting Room I in the complex of the House of Representatives in Jakarta City on Thursday.

He said the military personnel will focus on securing an entire series of activities of King Salman during his visit to Indonesia, including in the areas of the House of Representatives.

He was reluctant to reveal details of the number of military personnel to be deployed in the area of the parliament building.

Iriawan stated that police officers have been deployed to help ensure security during the kings visit in Indonesia.

As many as 4.9 thousand personnel of the Indonesian National Police have been deployed in every location being visited by King Salman.

“The police officers have been deployed in the area of the House of Representatives, Istiqlal Mosque, the area of the Presidential Palace, and other sites,” he pointed out.

Ahead of the arrival of King Salman, the areas of the parliament building, especially from the main entrance to the car parking for state guests were secured by the officers. The national flag of Saudi Arabia has been hoisted alongside the Indonesian flag at the main pillar in the area of the parliament building.

King Salman and his entourage arrived at the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta on Wednesday at around 1 p.m. local time. The Saudi king will stay in the country for nine days from Mar 1 to Mar 9.

On Thursday, King Salman is scheduled to deliver a speech in the parliament building before the members of Indonesias House of Representatives.

The kings visit to Indonesia is aimed at improving bilateral cooperation in the areas of politics, economy, culture, education, investment, and others.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has stated that 10 cooperation agreements were inked during a bilateral meeting between President Joko Widodo and King Salman at the Bogor Palace in Bogor, West Java Province, on Wednesday.(*)
