Kadin lauds all parties’ coordination for smooth Eid exodus flow

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) commended the preparedness and coordination of all parties that resulted in the relatively smooth flow of the 2022 Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus.

“Despite traffic jams and vehicle congestions on the Cipularang Toll Road towards Bandung and vice versa due to the wrong placement of the one-way (system) starting point, it could immediately be handled, thanks to good coordination in traffic engineering,” Kadin’s Coordinator of Vice-Chairperson IV for Human, Research, Technology and Innovation Quality Improvement Carmelita noted in her statement accessed here on Friday.

Carmelita remarked that after the two-year ban on the Eid homecoming exodus, the community had enthusiastically welcomed the Eid exodus this year.

According to a survey by the Transportation Ministry, the number of homecomers for the 2022 Eid reached 85 million people, and 14 million of them are from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).

According to state-owned toll operator PT Jasa Marga, the highest record of vehicles departing from Jabodetabek reached 1.7 million.

Despite the high number, Carmelita noted that the police had successfully ensured the smooth flow of the exodus through measures including the implementation of traffic engineering, such as the one-way system, odd-even traffic policy, counter-flow system, and restriction on freight and tri-axle vehicles.

Carmelita called for re-applying traffic engineering for the return flow that is forecast to occur on May 6-8, 2022.

Carmelita also assessed that the private sector, in this case, transportation operators, also played a significant role in the smooth flow of the Eid homecoming.

For instance, during the congestion that occurred at Merak port earlier, a private ship operator operated a large passenger RORO ship from the Indah Kiat Merak Pier to Panjang Port.

“Our members also provide ferry services to handle the congestion that occurred. This is our role and commitment as transportation operators to ensure the availability of transportation for homecomers,” she remarked.
