Jokowi to hold open campaign events in Karawang, Bandung, Solo

Jakarta- (ANTARA) – Incumbent Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is on Tuesday scheduled to hold open campaign events in Karawang and Bandung in West Java Province, and Solo, his home town in Central Java Province.

In Karawang, the open campaign takes place in the morning at Singaperbangsa Stadium which has a capacity of accommodating 70 thousand people.

The stadium is expected to be crowded with Jokowi’s supporters, members of his coalition of political parties, and members of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Indonesia’s largest Muslim organization.

Fiki Satari, content director of the Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin National Campaign Team (TKN), in a statement, said that during the campaign, Jokowi would encourage the Indonesian people to be always optimistic.

“This country can make progress only with optimism,” he said.

Jokowi will also ask the public to not believe in hoaxes.

Over 192 million Indonesians will cast their ballots in the 2019 legislative and presidential elections to be organized simultaneously throughout the nation on April 17.

The 2019 race is set to be a reprise of the testy 2014 presidential election that brought to light the nations divide, as Jokowi contested against retired general Prabowo Subianto.

Jokowi has picked prominent cleric Ma’ruf Amin as his running mate, while Subianto has chosen as his running mate Sandiaga Uno, a successful and young businessman.
