Jokowi orders construction of factory for disabled

Bekasi, W Java (ANTARA News) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has instructed the Social Affairs Ministry to realize a proposal for the construction of a factory to employ people with disabilities soon.

“I am waiting for it. They (the ministry) are looking for a plot of land for it, but they have not found it yet,” he stated.

The president made the remarks during the peak commemoration of International Disabilities Day 2018 at Summarecon Mall in Bekasi, West Java, on Monday.

He gave the instruction to Social Service Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.

He remarked that he received the proposal in 2014. But the need for a large area of land to build the factory remained an obstacle to its realization.

He instructed Gumiwang to realize the proposal soon, so that the pledge to build the factory will not drag on.

“The people whom I have pledged continue to ask me. Please remind me. I will ask the minister and then the minister will ask the director general. To be sure, it must be realized,” he added.

The factory may engage in garment or electronic industry or other innovative works, he revealed.

“Surely, the people with disabilities must be facilitated. Give them opportunities to make achievements and do creative works,” he pointed out.
