Jokowi departs for kilometer zero point of IKN in East Kalimantan

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana departed for the kilometer zero point of Indonesia’s next Nusantara capital city (IKN), where they will spend the night on Monday.

The Presidential Aircraft Indonesia-1 carrying the President and his entourage took off from the Adi Sutjipto Air Force Base, Sleman District, Yogyakarta, at around 1 p.m. local time on Sunday. a press statement of the Presidential Secretariat’s Press, Media and Information Bureau said on Sunday

Upon arrival at Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, the President is scheduled to proceed to the hotel where he will be staying for one night.

On Monday, the President is scheduled to go to the IKN’s Kilometer Zero Point area , located in North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan, to stay overnight in the location.

Members of the President’s entourage include State-owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Erick Thohir, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono, Presidential Military Secretary M. Tonny Harjono, Commander of the Presidential Guards (Paspampres) Major General Tri Budi Utomo , and Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin.

Earlier, East Kalimantan Governor Isran Noor told the media that that President Jokowi and governors of five provinces on Kalimantan Island would spend the night at the location of the zero point of IKN in North Penajam Paser.

The necessary facilities and infrastructure have been prepared, including the electricity and telecommunication networks, tents and equipment that the President would use while staying overnight there.

Isran Noor said on Friday that all governors from the country’s 34 provinces were invited and required to wear the traditional clothes of their respective provinces.

“Because this is the Nusantara capital city , guests (governors) will wear traditional nusantara archipelago clothes from each province. However, the governors who will spend the night at the camping area with the President are only five Kalimantan governors , namely from East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan,” he said.
