Jakarta Fashion Week 2021 to feature 60 designers

Jakarta (ANTARA) – At least 60 fashion designers have confirmed their participation in the Jakarta Fashion Week 2021 (JFW 2021), which will be organized virtually from November 26 to 29, 2020.

Edy Wardoyo, deputy secretary for tourism products and activity organizers at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, expressed support for using digital technology to organize JFW 2021.

“The tourism industry and the creative economy have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, even so we are still required to keep working, one of which is by using technology. Virtual events are a way to arouse people’s enthusiasm that an event can still be enjoyed,” he said at an online press conference here on Thursday.

The pandemic should not set boundaries on innovations, especially in the creative industry.

“We, from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, encourage creative economy entrepreneurs to continue to work together and encourage each other in this current difficult time,” Wardoyo said.

Svida Alisjahbana, CEO of GCM Group, which is organizing JFW 2021 said: “”For the first time since JFW was held, JFW 2021 is being held 100 percent virtually, namely [through] a live stream on the JFW.TV microsite, which will be released next week, then, also on JFW’s official channel and partner platforms establishing cooperation with JFW.”

Sixty fashion designers and domestic and international labels will participate in the event, which will also be streamed live on TikTok, she added.

The fashion designers include Rani Hatta, Jenahara, Restu Anggraini, Tities Sapoetra, Albert Yanuar, Lekat, Cotton Ink, Rinaldy Yuniardi as well as the winner of the 2020 Accessory Designer Competition, 2020 Menswear Fashion Designer Competition, Dewi Fashion Knight, and the Indonesian Fashion Forward label.

The top three contestants of the Puteri Indonesia 2020 beauty pageant, including Ayu Maulida Putri, are also slated to take part in the JFW event. They will walk the JFW runway wearing Albert Yanuar’s designs, according to the organizers.

The JFW 2021 will also present a tribute to Barli Asmara, the talented Indonesian designer who died last August, and unveil Surabaya-based models Maria Karina and Rizal Rama as the winners of The Search for Jakarta Fashion Week 2021 Icons contest.

The event will be organized at the Senayan City mall, Jakarta, under strict implementation of COVID-19 health protocols, including on social distancing and crowd control.
