Indonesia’s democratic feat draws Chinese foreign minister’s acclaim

Beijing (ANTARA) – The Indonesian government’s successful feat in ensuring the smooth and safe implementation of the simultaneous general election on April 17, 2019, has drawn the acclaim of Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

“I am keen to applaud you on successfully holding the elections,” Yi remarked at a bilateral meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing, Wednesday.

During the meeting, Yi in the company of numerous officials,including Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xiao Qian, view Indonesia, the world’s most densely populated nation, as being a vital partner.

Foreign Minister Marsudi, on her part too was thankful for the compliments showered by her colleagues.

“We also praise the holding of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF),” Minister Marsudi affirmed.

Minister Marsudi is upbeat that the second BRF would be instrumental in further driving connectivity cooperation in the region and among regions.

Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla is scheduled to attend the second BRF in Beijing on Apr 25-27, for which he and his entourage will be landing at the Beijing Capital International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

The second BFR, themed “Belt and Road Cooperation, Shaping a Brighter Shared Future,” targets facilitating high-quality cooperation under the BRI framework.

Other events planned on the sidelines of the 2019 forum comprise 12 sub-forums prioritizing practical cooperation. Moreover, a pioneering conference focusing on the business community, will be held.
