Indonesian warship conducts security operation in Eastern Indonesia

Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA) – Indonesian warship KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata-331 would conduct border security operations in Eastern Indonesia, started from the waters of Maluku.

The warship arrived in Ambon on Saturday morning and docked at the TNI AL Tawiri pier. KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata-331 entered the waters of Ambon Bay under a heavy rain and strong wind. Even so, the ship’s docking process went well.

“In general, we will carry out security operations in Indonesian waters in areas bordering neighboring countries,” the warship commander Navy Colonel (P) Rasyid Al Hafiz said here on Saturday.

The warship was named Raden Eddy Martadinata, a high-ranking naval military officer born in Priangan and served as chief of the Navy’s military staff in the period 1957-1966. When he took office, the position was changed by President Soekarno to Minister/Commander of the Navy.

Hafiz said it was the second time for KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata-331 to dock in Ambon after 2018. The warship will refuel and supply logistics before the two-month border security operations is started from the waters of Maluku to Papua.

He explained that the four-year-old warship is equipped with qualified devices and is manned by selected naval soldiers.

Hafiz said KRI Raden Eddy Martadinta-331 is a frigate type ship that applies SIGMA technology in collaboration with the Damen Schelde shipyard, Netherlands. One of the technologies applied on the frigate is radar detection complex technology.

“This ship is a type of SIGMA frigate that is designed to be difficult to detect by enemy’s radar. It can be seen from the many pointed geometric triangles,” he said.

The ship with a length of 105 meters and a width of 14 meters is a larger ship compared to the previous SIGMA technology warship, which is a type of corvette ship. In addition, he said, KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata-331 is also designed to be able to survive in the midst of high waves, so that the ship is very capable of operating in the Banda Sea and Aru Sea, which currently have quite high waves.

In addition, the ship is also the best production warship of PT PAL Indonesia (Persero). Based on data from the Ministry of Defense, KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata-331 is the first PKR SIGMA 10514 ship built at the PT PAL Indonesia shipyard in collaboration with the Dutch shipping company Damen Schelde.

The ship is the fifth ship to apply SIGMA technology with a maximum speed of 28 knots and is designed for multiple war missions, including shipboard and underwater warfare as well as electronic warfare.
