Indonesian General Election: Waiting For GEC’s Results

JAKARTA, The official results of the Indonesian general election (2019 Pemilu) will only be informed by the Indonesian General Election Commission (GEC) progressively from April 25 to May 22.

Meanwhile, the official announcement of the Indonesian President and Vice-President for the period 2019-2024 was scheduled on Oct 20, 2019.

But, for the Presidential election (Pilpres) both the supporters were now seen using the quick count survey results in revealing and rationalising their early wins.

Based on the quick count survey results done by survey bodies in Indonesia, Presiden Joko Widodo who was defending his post, with his partner for Vice-President, Ma’ruf Amin, were clearly ahead of the Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno pair.

A total 40 independent bodies registered with the Indonesian GEC would conduct the fast counting of the 2019 Pilres.

The quick count results were unofficial results, with the bodies in question using the results of vote counts at selected voting centres which were used as samples in the quick count process.

The bodies used vote count samples at 3,000 to 6,000 voting centres they selected based on the votings at the selected voting centres using certain criteria.

Prabowo, 57, clearly rejected the quick count result conducted by the bodies concerned.

I only want to give an update that based on real count (done by his side) we are already (ahead) at 62 per cent,” said Prabowo in a statement Thursday.
