Government responds to polio case with immunization in Aceh

The Indonesian Health Ministry is responding to polio case (KLB) with immunizations that will be carried out in Aceh Province.

“In response to the case, we will carry out an outbreak respond immunization in the region. We will also increase immunization coverage,” the ministry’s director general of disease prevention and control (P2P), Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, said here, Saturday.

The immunization would be carried out in Pidie District and other districts in Aceh Province from November 28, 2022 until December 5, 2022.

Currently, the government is still consulting with the World Health Organization (WHO), in order to be able to carry out immunizations in children aged less than 13 years. In addition, the government also conducts active surveillance at the community health center (puskesmas) to check for any unreported children under 15 years old who experienced flaccid or sudden paralysis.

“The vaccine is still being prepared and we are ready to carry out immunization outbreak response . The immunization in Pidie will be carried out on November 28. Children under 13 years old have been ordered to receive immunization . Furthermore, immunization throughout Aceh Province will be started on December 5,” he said.

In addition, regular routine immunization is carried out to increase the coverage of inactive polio vaccine (IPV), he added.

“The world’s target, including Indonesia, is to carry out eradication in 2026, in 2-3 years. So if there is still one case found in any country, it will become a global concern,” Rondonuwu said.
