Golkar politician asks Novanto to surrender to KPK

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Ahmad Doli Kurnia, initiator of the Golkar Party Youth Movement (GMPG), has called on Setya Novanto, chairman of Golkar concurrently House Speaker, to surrender himself to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

“Herewith, we call on SN to surrender immediately,” Doli Kurnia said, here, Thursday.

He lauded the KPK for going to Novantos house to pick him up because Novanto has frequently failed to meet the KPKs summons.

“I think KPK is right by sending investigators to SNs home to pick SN up by force. KPK has been patient and wise in responding to SNs resistance so far,” he said.

The anti-graft agency on Wednesday evening sent several investigators to Novantos home to arrest him. But, on Thursday morning, they left the home without Novanto as the Golkar chairman was not found there.

Doli Kurnia considered the disappearance of Novanto as a tragedy for the nation.

The KPK earlier called on Setya Novanto, who has been named a suspect in a graft case related to the procurement of national electronic identity (e-ID) card project on Nov 10, to surrender.

“In a persuasive manner we call on SN (Setya Novanto) to surrender,” KPK Spokesman Febri Diansyah said here early on Thursday.

The KPK has issued arrest warrant for Novanto. Since Wednesday night until early Thursday, the KPK investigators team was in the field to search for the suspect. If he did not surrender, the KPK will coordinate on the need to put Novanto on the wanted list.

It was found that Novanto, as a member of parliament during the 2009-2014 period, along with Sudihardjono; Andi Agustinus alias Andi Narogong; Irman, director general of civil registry and population affairs of the Ministry of Home Affairs; Sugiharto, official-in-charge of making commitment of the directorate general of civil registry and population affairs; as well as several other accomplices, had abused power and facilities to cause at least Rp2.3 trillion financial loss to the state from the Rp5.9 trillion e-ID procurement project of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the 2011-2012 period.
