Flood inundates residential areas in Pangandaran

Pangandaran, W Java (ANTARA News) – A flood inundated residential areas and roads in Pangadanran District, West Java, following incessant rain on Monday afternoon.

The flooding was triggered by incessant heavy rain, Nana Ruhena, head of Pengandaran disaster mitigation office and fire brigade, said here, Tuesday.

Hundreds of homes in Putrapinang village, Kalipucang Sub-district, were flooded following downpour at around 4 p.m. on Monday, Yuyuk, a local inhabitant, said.

In Karangsri village, flood also submerged several homes at a height of up to 30 cm.

The rainy season has set in quite late over certain regions but has already induced floods and landslides, claiming more than 25 lives, particularly in parts of Sumatra and Java Islands, this year.

Since October 2018, floods have reportedly hit many villages in several provinces, such as West Sumatra, North Sumatra, Riau, Aceh, West Java, and East Java.

On Java Island, floods struck the districts of Tasikmalaya and Pangandaran in West Java Province, in early November.

In Tasikmalaya, 498 households in six villages located in three sub-districts — Culamega, Cipatujah, and Cikalong — were affected by flooding triggered by incessant downpour.

The Tasikmalaya floods claimed five lives and rendered one person missing.
