Flash flood hits Ciwidey area, Bandung district

Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) – A flash flood hit Margamulya Village in Pasir Jambu Sub-district, Bandung District, West Java Province, as the Ciwidey River overflowed its bank on Wednesday.

“The flash flood occurred at around 3:45 p.m. local time,” Joshua Banjarjohor, a spokesman of the West Java search and rescue (SAR) office, stated here, Thursday.

The flood swept away four houses, seriously damaged 12 homes and a mosque, and caused minor damage to 30 other houses.

“The SAR team continues to monitor the flood-affected areas,” he revealed.

The floodwaters began to subside, and there were no reports of casualties in the disaster.

Last week, floods had hit three sub-districts in Bandung District, following incessant heavy rains for two days.

“At 7 p.m. local time yesterday, floods began submerging Dayeuhkolot, Bojongsoang, and Baleendah,” Tata Irawan, head of the Bandung disaster mitigation office, said recently.

The floodwaters reached a height of between 10 centimeters and 100 centimeters.

Meanwhile, a flash flood hit Sambungrejo Village in Magelang District, Central Java Province, killing five people and leading to four others going missing on Apr 29.

Edy Susanto, head of the Magelang disaster mitigation office, said the Ndaru River overflowed and triggered the flash flood carrying debris and rocks.

The flooding also caused injuries to four villagers who were later rushed to a nearby hospital and community health post.

The local authorities have deployed 519 personnel to look for the missing people and help survivors in the village located between Mount Andong and Mount Telomoyo, Magelang.

The rescue team comprised personnel of the military and police as well as volunteers.

In Aceh Province, Sumatra Island, as many as 2,476 residents are still taking refuge in the Lawe Tua Village in Southeast Aceh District after a flash flood ripped through the village on Apr 13.

The residents were from the five villages of Lawe Sigala Barat, Kayu Belin, Lawe Tua Persatuan, Lawe Tua Gabungan, and Lawe Sigala Timur, located on the slope of the Gunung Leuser mountain range, Risky Hidayat, coordinator of the SAR command post in Kutacane, Southeast Aceh District, stated.
