Five water buses to get operated in Papua’s Asmat district: ASDP

Asmat, Papua (ANTARA) – Five water buses that the Indonesian Transportation Ministry provided for public transportation in Asmat District, Papua Province, have arrived in Agats, according to state-owned ferry operator ASDP Indonesia Ferry-Merauke office.

The water buses were shipped by cargo ship “Victory 8”, Head of Human Resources and General Affairs at ASDP Indonesia Ferry-Merauke Office Rosso Wijokongko revealed on the Asmat district government’s official website on Sunday.

The Merauke-based ferry operator’s authority was preparing for an immediate operation of the five water buses, he said, adding that each of the water buses could carry 17 passengers.

The water buses were prepared for serving the Agats-Ayam-Ketew, Warse-Amborep, Agats-Yosakor, Agats-Jinak, and Agats–Yufri-Comor routes, he added.

The Indonesian Transportation Ministry has allocated funds for procuring water buses to support public transportation in Papua.

The ministry, for instance, allocated Rp800 million of fund in its 2020 budget for the provision of four water buses for public transportation in the islands of Biak Numfor District.

“The four water buses, each with the capacity of 20 passengers, are expected to support the strategic program of national tourism to serve sea transportation routing Owi Island-Biak City and Padaido Islands-Aimando,” Head of Biak Transportation Office Fransisco Olla said recently.
