Handling the problem of climate change requires a strategy involving finance and technology, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated during the 2021 Transformation Festival event here on Tuesday.
“This is a real challenge,” she affirmed.
Indrawati stressed that a strategy, in terms of finance and technology, should be prepared in order to handle climate change since it can have major consequences with regard to funding.
In addition, the major consequences will involve the future of the people, especially millennials, she pointed out.
To this end, finance and technological adaptation strategy will be combined by the government in formulating a certain policy, she noted.
The policy is designed to help the world deal with the catastrophe known as climate change, as changing economic and public activities necessitate a policy design.
“This is whether it comes in the form of investment or consumption that is more conscious of the importance of preserving the environment and preventing the worsening effect of climate change,” Indrawati explained.
However, citizens can tackle climate change by conducting a transformation of green economy as well as preserving and nurturing the forests and oceans, the minister highlighted.
“This is something the people can do but will not worsen the effect of climate change,” she noted.
During the event, Indrawati also urged the Finance Ministry to continue to conduct and accelerate the transformation of public services in order to address various complex challenges.
“This (transformation) is not an activity that can be conducted within a year, but it is an outlook that is willing to and capable of changing in accordance with the challenges that we are facing,” she affirmed.
Furthermore, the minister stated that facing the COVID-19 endemic will require public service that is more modern and inclusive, especially within the health sector.
