Export of stainless steel increases

JAKARTA – Exports of steel products from Indonesia, especially stainless steel slabs and HRC stainless steel (hot rolled coil) increased significantly. The most striking surge in exports was almost three times that of stainless steel HRC, then followed by stainless steel slabs almost doubled.

The Ministry of Industry (Ministry of Industry) noted, the export of stainless steel slabs during January-September 2018 reached 459,502 tons, an increase of 302,919 tons in the same period of 2017. While HRC stainless steel exports jumped to 877,990 tons from 324,108 tons.

Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (Ilmate) Ministry of Industry Harjanto said steel exports from Indonesia will continue to increase because stainless steel steel mills in Morowali industrial area still have expansion space.

“In Morowali, the total production capacity of smelter nickel pig iron is 2 million tons per year and 3.5 million tons of stainless steel per year, with exports reaching US $ 2 billion in 2017 and rising to US $ 3.5 billion in 2018, “He said in Jakarta on Monday (1/28).
