Ensure fulfilment of rights of Kiwirok attack victims: LPSK

Jakarta Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) Head Hasto Atmojo Suroyo has reminded the government to ensure the fulfilment of rights of those falling victim to several armed Papuan separatist terrorists’ attack in Kiwirok Sub-district, Pegunungan Bintang District, Papua Province, on September 13.

“The LPSK is authorised to provide immediate medical support to the victims after an act of terror,” Suroyo stated.

Suroyo confirmed that the LPSK was currently communicating with officials to determine whether the attack in Kiwirok last Tuesday (Sept 14) was classified as an act of terror.

Suroyo stated that the designation of the Kiwirok attack as a terrorist incident would authorise the LPSK to provide medical support and assistance to the victims and witnesses of the incident. Apart from medical support, physical protection and psychological rehabilitation assistance are also available to the victims, he added.

The victims can also apply for compensation designated for victims of terror attacks by seeking the court’s decision, Suroyo noted.
