Eid: Ministry to open S Japek II highway to ease traffic

The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry will prepare to open the South Jakarta-Cikampek (Japek) II Toll Road if there are severe traffic snarls during the 2022 Eid Al-Fitr holiday.

Currently, the highway is still under construction. Once completed, it will connect the Jakarta Outer Ring Road in Jati Asih section, Bekasi City, with the Purbaleunyi Toll Road in Sadang section, Purwakarta District.

The plan to prepare the route to serve the Eid Al-Fitr homecoming and return trips was conveyed by PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono during a meeting with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) here on Wednesday.

The construction of the toll road is aimed at anticipating traffic congestion during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, he said.

“The part of the South Japek II Toll Road between Sadang section kilometer (km) 62 and Kutanegara section KM 53, with a length of 8.6 km, will serve as a functional anticipation route, which is connected to Industrial Road KM 15. Through the Industrial Road, the users will enter the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road via East Karawang Toll Gate KM 54,” he added.

Currently, the construction of the third phase of the South Japek II Toll Road (Taman Mekar–Sadang section) has reached 62.17-percent completion. It is targeted to be completed by the end of 2022.

Meanwhile, the progress of land acquisition for the section has reached 92.04 percent.

The highway is expected to play an important role in connecting regions in West Java, and has the potential to attract various investments, which can increase the community’s economic growth as well as develop local industrial and tourism areas.

In addition, the South Jakarta-Cikampek II Toll Road, which is being built at an investment of Rp14.69 trillion and a concession period of 35 years, can reduce travel time from Jakarta to Cikampek Sub-district, Karawang District, through the southern region.

The highway will have seven interchanges.
