Dhu al-Hijjah, Eid al-Adha day determined during June-29 Isbat session

The Religious Affairs Ministry will organise the Isbat (confirmation) session to determine the start of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, on Wednesday, June 29, according to an official.

The Isbat session will also determine the Eid al-Adha day when Muslims offer animal sacrifice, known as Qurban, that falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah.

“We will organize the Isbat session on June 29, 2022, to determine the start of Dhu al-Hijjah and the Eid al-Adha day. This is (the ministry’s) service to facilitate (Muslim) residents to perform their religious rituals during the Dhu al-Hijjah month,” the ministry’s Director of Islamic Affairs and Sharia Guidance, Adib, noted in his statement received here on Tuesday.

As organizing the Isbat session is an important duty of the Religious Affairs Ministry, especially the Islamic affairs directorate, he urged relevant officials to ready for the session optimally.

“(We must) evaluate from earlier Isbat sessions when we determine the start of Ramadan and Shawwal. Despite the Isbat session to determine the start of Dhu al-Hijjah not being as distinguished as those sessions, we must prepare (the session) optimally,” Adib remarked.

Meanwhile, the directorate general’s Hisab (astronomical calculation), Rukyat (visual observation of the Moon), and Sharia Sub-directorate head Ismail Fahmi remarked that the Isbat session on June 29 will be divided into three sessions.

The first session will be the presentation of the astronomical observation report by the ministry’s Hijri Calendar Unification Team that will start at 5 p.m. local time (UTC +7), he noted.

The second session, to take place after the Magrib prayer, will hear reports of visual observation of the new moon conducted from various points in Indonesia, the sub-directorate head stated.

“The third session will be the announcement of the Isbat session result broadcast live by (national television) TVRI as TV pool and live streaming in various ministry social media channels,” Fahmi remarked.
