Details of seven PON venues in Papua inaugurated by Jokowi

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated seven venues of the 20th National Sports Week (PON) in Papua by signing inscriptions at the Papua Bangkit sport arena on Saturday.

“Our next duty is to maintain and use the venues well. I do not want the facilities been built according to international standards by using an enormous budget to be deserted, unmaintained, and damaged,” he emphasized.

The details of the venues are described below.

1. Istora Papua Bangkit

Located in Harapan Village, East Sentani Sub-district, Jayapura District, Papua Province, the work to construct the venue took place between November 2018 and September 2020.

The 7,740-square-meter building has a capacity of 3,148 tribune seats.

The sports arena holds three records acknowledged by the Indonesian Record Museum for installing the longest textile duct ring, the widest dome roof without bolts, as well as the longest curved steel roof.

2. Aquatic Arena

The water sports arena was built at the same location as the sports palace, with an area of 17,783 square meters and 1,500 tribune seats.

The aquatic venue has been licensed by the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) or the International Swimming Federation.
