Deputy affirms central role of women, children in national development

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy for Community Participation at the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) Ministry Indra Gunawan has highlighted the crucial role of women and children in the nation’s development. “Children are assets of the nation. They are so precious an asset that their value cannot be determined. Hence, it is our duty to ascertain their welfare,” Gunawan remarked in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

In the meantime, gender mainstreaming also holds great relevance for societal development, though in no way encouraging women’s domination over their male counterparts.

Gunawan believes gender mainstreaming aims to strike a balance and harmony in relationships as well as encourage role-sharing in families and society, as a whole.

“Hence, the government has called on every party that cares for womankind and children to join forces to boost their welfare,” Gunawan emphasized.

Synergy is the need of the hour since the government cannot singlehandedly tackle the various gaps experienced by women and children.

Gunawan highlighted the need for the central and local government as well as community and professional institutions, academics, business, and mass media to forge synergy to empower womankind and safeguard children.

Hence, the KPPPA Ministry has set up a Public Participation Forum for the welfare of women and children (Puspa) since 2017.
