The total committed value for domestically made products has reached Rp800 trillion (US$54 billion), Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has informed.

“At present, the total value committed by government institutions, regional governments, and state-owned enterprises for the affirmative action has reached Rp800 trillion. We will continue monitoring the process to ensure the process will benefit the national economy,” Pandjaitan said in an online statement at the launch of the National Movement of Proud of Indonesia-made Products (Gernas BBI) in Bangka Belitung Province, accessed from here on Friday.

The affirmative action for domestic-made products is meant to bolster the demand for such products, the coordinating minister added.

He also expressed gratitude that as of March this year, the Gernas BBI program has helped at least 18.5 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to gain access to the digital marketplace ecosystem.

“We hope that until the end of May 2022, the number will surpass 20 million enterprises,” Pandjaitan said.

He then outlined three strategies that regional authorities can implement to bolster the utilization of domestic products: procuring domestic products through the e-catalog system, encouraging the development of local e-catalogs, and requiring an e-catalog system for domestic MSMEs.

The government has enacted the National Movement of Proud of Indonesia-made Products to bolster the national economy, including by instructing government ministries and institutions and regional authorities to prioritize domestic-made products while making purchases.

The government is also targeting the total transaction value of domestic-made products procured by the government through the e-catalog system and online marketplaces to reach Rp400 trillion (US$27.2 billion) in 2022.

This is expected to boost national economic growth by 1.71 percent.
