Chinas OBOR initiative to support Indonesias infrastructure development

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – The economic cooperation pact “One Belt One Road” (OBOR), initiated by China, would hopefully help Indonesia implement infrastructure development programs and improve national connectivity, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated.

Marsudi made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi at the Diayoutai State Guest House in Beijing on Saturday (May 13), the Foreign Ministry noted in a press statement released on Monday (May 15).

The concept of OBOR is a development strategy proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping to focus on connectivity and cooperation between China and all Eurasian countries comprising two main components of economic roads: land silk road and maritime silk road.

At the bilateral meeting, Minister Yi elaborated on Chinas OBOR initiative. He said OBOR is Chinas initiative to increase synergy and development programs among countries and regions.

It is expected that the initiative would also improve connectivity among countries and nations, he emphasized.

In response, Marsudi expressed hope that the OBOR initiative would also be able to support the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2015 and contribute to the ASEAN Communitys welfare as well as global peace, security, and stability.

The two foreign ministers also discussed bilateral cooperation. They also successfully completed the action plan on the implementation of the Indonesia-China comprehensive strategic partnership.

The plan comprises steps and programs to be realized in the political, legal, and security fields as well as cooperation in the trade, investment, tourism, and maritime sectors.

“The plan of action will increasingly improve concrete cooperation between the two countries, such as for addressing and combating drug trade, terrorism, human trafficking, and illegal fishing, and forging legal cooperation,” Marsudi added.
