State-owned logistics firm Bulog has distributed food and clothing assistance to residents affected by the recent earthquake in Pasaman and West Pasaman districts through the State-owned Enterprises’ (SOEs) National Disaster Task Force Command Post.
“This is in accordance with the directive from the President, in which all parties have been asked to jointly help residents who are victims of the earthquake in the West Sumatra area. As part of SOEs, through the Bulog Peduli Bencana program, Bulog is realizing that directive,” Bulog corporate secretary Awaludin Iqbal said in a statement released here on Wednesday.
Under the assistance program, Bulog distributed 2 tons of rice and clothes, baby diapers, cleaning equipment, bread, instant noodles, carpets, among others in the two districts, in coordination with the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and local governments, he informed.
Regarding the distribution of the assistance, on behalf of the Bulog family, Iqbal expressed his condolences for the calamities that occurred in several regions in the country.
“We are collaborating with other SOEs here to move quickly to help provide assistance to disaster-affected communities at the locations affected by the 6.1-magnitude earthquake that occurred in the West Sumatra region,” he said.
He further said that the assistance is a form of Bulog’s support to ease the burden on residents who have been affected by the quake that struck on Friday (February 25, 2022).
Earlier, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) had reported that as many as 14 thousand quake-affected residents of West Sumatra were still staying at temporary evacuation shelters.
