BPK-BPKP cooperate to expedite review of state financial reports

Indonesia’s Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) and the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expedite the follow-up review of state financial management.

“As an audit agency, BPK should synergize with BPKP as part of the government’s internal supervisory apparatuses (APIP) in monitoring the state’s finance,” chairman of BPK, Agung Firman Sampurna, said during the MoU signing event here on Friday.

“BPK and BPKP will strengthen synergy and coordination through collaboration described in detail in the memorandum of understanding,” he added.

The newly inked memorandum of understanding is an updated version of the previous MoU that was signed in 2011, Sampurna said.

Under the new agreement, BPK and BPKP have agreed to cooperate in the exchange of data and information, he informed.

According to Sampurna, this will be done by utilizing data from the information technology system developed by BPK and BPKP, utilizing BPKP’s audit result report or review result to BPK, and utilizing BPK’s Opinion and Review Result Report related to the examination of state finance management.

Other areas of cooperation between the agencies will comprise the use of auditors, joint audits on certain issues, education and training, research and development, as well as other activities in accordance with the agreement, he said.

With the agreement, the BPK and BPKP will expand the scope of their work in monitoring and overseeing the state’s institutions capacity in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.

“APIP acts as an independent and objective third line of defense. With this concept, APIP plays an important role in keeping the implementation of national development accountable, which aligns with BPK’s role in BPK’s vision 2020-2024,” Firman remarked.
