Banten Police begin investigations into three electoral crimes

Tangerang (ANTARA) – The Banten provincial police have kicked off investigations into three cases of crimes linked to the 2019 general election.

The first case was related to a member of the polling station in Ciloang, Serang City, who had cast a ballot, Commissioner of the Banten Provincial Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) Badrul Munir noted in Tangerang on Saturday.

The second case pertained to a resident voting earlier than the specified time, whereas the third case concerned a campaign at a place of worship in Serang, he remarked.

“The police are probing the three cases of electoral crimes through an integrated law enforcement unit,” he noted.

As of Apr 27, the Bawaslu Office in Banten had obtained 125 reports of electoral violations.

Three of the electoral violations fall in the category of criminal offense, while the remaining are linked to administrative and ethical violations. The parties involved in the cases are electoral contestants, election officers, and the regular public.

“The reports obtained by the Bawaslu Office in Banten are largely linked to administrative crimes committed during the campaigning period until voting day,” he remarked.

Responding to a report of a resident casting a ballot earlier than the stipulated time in Cipondoh, Tangerang City, he remarked that the Bawaslu Office was yet awaiting another report from the Bawaslu Office in Tangerang.
