Anies Opens Second Meeting Of JCC Land Subsidence Handling

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan opened the second meeting of Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Project to promote land subsidence handling in Jakarta.

He expressed, land subsidence should be handled seriously, across generations, and for a long term.

“We need to learn from other cities, such as Tokyo, Japan. It experiences a quite severe land subsidence and it is handled seriously,” he conveyed at City Hall, Wednesday (1/16).

Thus he wants Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to share their experience to solve land subsidence in effective and efficient way. According to him, JICA has a role in solving Tokyo’s land subsidence with its technology and resources.

“We could find a perfect solution to solve land subsidence in Jakarta by learning from their very valuable experiences,” he stated.

In order to solve land subsidence, it needs cooperation between institutions which involves Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, National Development Planning Agency, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, and JICA.

“We have signed Record of Discussions (RoD) on the Project for Promoting Countermeasures against Land Subsidence in Jakarta on July 27, 2017. This project will be done in three years or until January 2021,”

RoD documents signing is motivated by Japanese Government’s eagerness to share experiences and a part of Tokyo’s plan in overcoming land subsidence problem that emerged since the beginning of 20th century.

“I hope this JCC meeting can give outputs to overcome land subsidence in Jakarta,” he said.
