Ahoks trial to resume next Tuesday

The first trial of Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) here on Tuesday in a religious blasphemy case will resume next Tuesday, according to Panel of Judges Chief Dwiarso Budi Santiarto.

“For a response to the memorandum of objection, we will convene next Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at 9 a.m.,” Santiarto remarked at the North Jakarta District Court.

He said the next hearing will receive the submission of the public prosecutor on the exceptions or objections of Ahok and his team of lawyers.

The first trial, which began at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, ended at around 11:30 a.m. local time.

Ahok arrived in a black car, wearing a long-sleeved batik shirt, at 7:50 am.

Some members of his legal team who attended the trial are Trimoelja D Suryadi, Humphrey Djemat, Sirra Prayuna, and Ahoks sister Fifi Lety Indra.

Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, or Ahok as he is popularly known, was tried on Tuesday after being named a suspect by the police over controversial remarks he made publicly in the district of Kepulauan Seribu, North Jakarta, which were considered insulting to the Holy Quran.
