ADB funds Southeast Asia’s largest PV solar power in Vietnam

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a 37 million USD loan to finance the installation of a 47.5MWp floating photovoltaic (PV) solar power facility in the southern province of Binh Thuan.

The system, situated on the man-made reservoir of the Da Mi hydropower plant, will be the first large-scale installation of floating solar PV panels in Southeast Asia.

This project will help boost the presence of renewable energy in Vietnam’s total energy consumption, and decrease the dependence on imported fossil fuels such as coal, said Christopher Thieme, deputy general director of the ADB’s Private Sector Operations Department.

The pairing of these two clean energy technologies hydropower and solar is a simple but highly innovative achievement which can be replicated elsewhere in Vietnam and across Asia and the Pacific, he said.
