Be wary of communicable diseases during seasonal transition: official

Jakarta – Head of the Jakarta Health Office’s Epidemiology Surveillance and Immunization Ngabila Salama called on Jakartans to stay cautious with various communicable diseases during the seasonal transition.

“Because this is seasonal transition, there are many communicable diseases,” she told ANTARA here Sunday.

This vigilance is especially important during this COVID-19 pandemic era, in which the people’s immunity against the coronavirus disease may have been strong, but the people’s immunity against flu and other communicable diseases may be weak, she added.

During the transition period, humidity becomes the main factor that causes immunity to decline. Thus various types of bacteria and virus causing diseases can easily enter the body.

To this end, there are two actions that can be done, namely preventing disease and preventing complication or death.

The disease prevention means that people do their utmost prevention efforts such as applying healthy life pattern, including maintaining personal hygiene and environment, paying attention to what they eat and drink, and diligently wearing a mask.

“If you do not have respiratory disease, that means you have digestive disease. That means the infection occurs through hand, droplet and air,” she remarked.

When it comes to nutritional intake, Salama recommends increasing consumption of fruit and vegetable.

In addition to sticking to breakfast, lunch and dinner, she also suggested that consuming fruit be also important during snack time.

She also suggests that Jakartans apply a healthy lifestyle principle called CERDIK — doing routine health examination, getting rid of cigarette smoke, having diligent exercise, balanced diet, and seven to eight hours of rest per day, as well as managing stress.

Meanwhile, preventing complication or death involves an early detection and awareness of of body condition. If the disease symptoms fail to get recovered, Salama urged the residents to consult doctors, and drink the prescribed medication.

PPRT Law improves domestic workers’ quality: rights commission

Jakarta – Indonesia’s National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) supports the existence of Domestic Workers’ Protection (PPRT) Law, saying that it would be able to improve the quality of domestic workers in the country.

Domestic workers, whose skills are neglected throughout this time due to lack of protection and attention, can become professional workers, Head of Komnas HAM Atnike Nova Sigiro said on the human rights commission’s YouTube channel on Sunday.

According to Sigiro, by recognising the domestic workers as employees, the government institutions at regional and central levels can allocate budgets and resources to improve their capability and protect them.

“This means that employers do not need to worry because this law will not put them in a difficult position. In fact, employers will receive better domestic workers and also legal assurance,” she explained.

Employers will receive quality domestic workers and legal assurance, such as work contract, service and productivity from the domestic workers.

She also highlighted that the existence of the domestic workers protection law in Indonesia will also protect Indonesia’s domestic workers overseas.

This is because the Indonesian Government can argue that domestic workers in their country have well been protected so that other countries will do the same to the Indonesian domestic workers, she elaborated.

To this end, there are many benefits that can be gained if the Domestic Workers Protection Law exists, she said.

“This is certainly not the final step, but this is a necessary step to advance the rights of domestic workers and also human rights civilization in Indonesia,” she remarked.

According to Sigiro, Komnas HAM expects that the law can be ratified by the House of Representatives (DPR) before the parliament session in 2023 ends.

The commission along with domestic workers await the good news concerning the deliberation of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill.

SKK Migas finds 15.02 million cubic feet of gas on Seram Island

Ambon – The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) and Cooperation Contract Contractor (KKKS) Citic Seram Energy unveiled that they had discovered a new reserve of 15.02 million cubic feet of gas on Seram Island in Maluku Province.

“So we conduct a re-test and evaluate the hydrocarbon potential in the carbonate rocks of the Manusela formation,” the task force’s Head of Drilling and Well Treatment Division Surya Widyantoro said in a statement that ANTARA received here Sunday.

The new reserve of gas was discovered in the Lofin-2 (re-entry) exploration well of Seti Village in North East Seram Subdistrict, Seti, Central Maluku District, he said.

After retesting the lining test of the Lofin-2 exploration well (re-entry), which has the main objective in carbonate rocks of the Manusela formation, a gas flow of 15.02 million cubic feet per day or MMSCFD was found in the non-choke 64/64 inches, he said.

Re-testing the exploration well lining test is aimed to determine the character or behavior of the reservoir for future development of the Lofin structure.

Currently, a joint team of personnel of the SKK Migas and Citic Seram Energy have been working on the ground to monitor and test the strength of the hydrocarbon bursts.

“Flaring during the well testing has been carried out and the gas burst is quite good,” Widyantoro said.

The discovery of gas on Seram Island has experienced considerable challenges in the operational testing of exploratory wells and taken much time because they are located in a remote area.

“Especially for mobilizing drilling equipment and materials, wells with relatively deep depths and high reservoir pressure,” Widyantoro explained.

Meanwhile, acting Head of the SKK Migas’ Program and Communication Division Mohammad Kemal said the discovery of gas reserves on Seram Island has brought a hope for the task force and its KKKS contractors to continue their massive, aggressive, and efficient explorations.

Kemal added that the potential for oil reserves on Seram Island remains quite large and predicted to reach at least five billion barrels.

“We have potential oil reserves on Seram Island and Warim Papua, and thank God there are already investors who are interested in looking at the data,” he said.

The business activities of SKK Migas are state/government’s ones while KKKS contractors only function as operators. They are supervised and controlled by SKK Migas, so they are different from private plantation and mining activities in general.
