FOWPAL promotes a culture of conscience at the 25th Eurasian Economic Summit

The Bell of World Peace and Love Rings in Turkey: Seven International Leaders Pray for World Peace

Exchange Among Influential Leaders

Dr. Akkan Suver, president of the Marmara Group Foundation, left, Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, president of FOWPAL, center, and Abdullah Gul, president of Turkey (2007-2014), exchanged their ideas during the 25th Eurasian Economic Summit in Istanbul, Turkey on June 9, 2022. Dr. Hong shared a book entitled The History of International Day of Conscience, documenting major events leading up to the United Nations’ designation of April 5 as the International Day of Conscience.

ISTANBUL, Turkey, June 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The pain and suffering brought forth by the war between Russia and Ukraine that broke out a few months ago has allowed the people of the world to deepen their understanding about the importance of peace. The Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL) was invited by Dr. Akkan Suver, president of the Marmara Group Foundation, to participate in the 25th Eurasian Economic Summit in Istanbul, Turkey on June 7-9.

Dr. Akkan Suver, who initiated the Eurasian Economic Summit, warmly welcomed all participants to the event, one of the world’s most important summits, which is held annually and brings together decision makers and experts in the fields of economics, politics, religion, energy, sociology, and security. Through dialogue, the Summit fosters active collaboration among leaders in various fields for sustainable development.

This year’s summit, under the theme of “Build Back Better,” focused on the post-pandemic era and the major impact of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine on the world, while addressing issues, such as new energy economy, global partnership, digitalization, a greener planet, dialogue among cities, food and commodity crisis, hunger, poverty, climate change, involuntary migration, and others. It was attended by hundreds of distinguished guests from over 40 countries, including heads of state and government, ambassadors, ministers, mayors, and leaders from all walks of life.

Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, president of FOWPAL, delivered a speech, emphasizing, “We firmly believe that a culture of peace and a culture of conscience are the foundation that sustains all cultures of the world, and they are also the core of sustainable economic development. A good culture nurtures a good education while a quality education leads to a healthy economy. Through the promotion of a culture of conscience and conscience-driven education, and by integrating the strengths of other cultures and education systems, we will be able to foster national economic growth and usher in stability and prosperity.” He pointed out, “To resolve conflicts with love and conscience is the embodiment of great wisdom.”

FOWPAL has been promoting the International Day of Conscience and the importance of conscience in the past few years and has received warm responses during the Summit. FOWPAL was invited to deliver five sessions of cultural performances, including martial arts, dance, music, and singing. The fabulous performances and profound cultural meanings touched people’s hearts and electrified the audience. In the opening session of the summit, FOWPAL amazed the attendees with an elegant “Peacock Dance,” which symbolized love, peace, and warmth, brought blessings to the Summit, and conveyed FOWPAL’s best wishes for the end of the war and pandemic.

Young volunteers for FOWPAL also performed a number of inspiring songs, such as “We Can Change the World,” “A Prayer for Peace,” and “We Are One World,” conveying their voices and their vision of a united world where people treat one another as family, which was in line with the spirit of the Summit. Through these performances, FOWPAL encouraged people to work together and take action to create a peaceful and sustainable world. FOWPAL’s performances not only gave people a sense of joy and positive energy, but also spread the culture of conscience, which resonated with the audience.

Another highlight of the summit was the ceremonies of ringing the Bell of World Peace and Love. The Bell of World Peace and Love, which weighs 240 kg and has consolidated the wishes for peace of over 400 leaders, rang in Turkey for the first time. On the closing day of the conference on June 9, the organizer invited FOWPAL to specially host the solemn ceremony of ringing the “Bell of World Peace and Love.” Seven influential leaders rang the Bell, including President Emil Constantinescu of Romania (1996-2000), President Filip Vujanović of Montenegro (2003-2018), President Moncef Marzouki of Tunisia (2011-2014), President Petru Lucinschi of Moldova (1997-2001), President Fatmir Sejdiu of Kosovo (2006-2010), Dr. Akkan Suver, and Djabir Doko, Deputy Minister of Political System and Inter-Community Relations of North Macedonia. President of Croatia Stjepan Mesic (2000-2010), who rang the Bell in 2016 in India, also attended the summit.

Dr. Akkan Suver rang the Bell and stated, “For peace! For peace! For peace!” He said in the name of peace, stability, love, and world peace, the bell ringing ceremony was conducted. This was the first time that Dr. Suver participated in such a ceremony. He emphasized that it is important for everyone to work together and have dialogue to promote stability and conscience. “We need a dialogue, and if we have a dialogue, we can find any solution to any problem.” He congratulated the FOWPAL delegation and expressed his gratitude to FOWPAL for organizing the bell ringing ceremony.

Filip Vujanovic, president of Montenegro (2003-2018), rang the Bell of World Peace and Love and wished for peace, unity, and love. Emil Constantinescu, president of Romania (1996-2000) wished for peace and understanding.

Moncef Marzouki, president of Tunisia (2011-2014), when interviewed by FOWPAL during the summit, stated, “We need peace. What’s happening between Ukraine and Russia is danger not only for this region, but the whole world because it could lead to the Third World War, so we badly need initiatives like yours. And I do support what you’re doing because once again, peace is the most important thing for everybody. We cannot talk about human rights unless we have peace.” “What you are doing is extremely important. I would like to congratulate you. Please go ahead. We need every initiative, everybody supporting peace.”

Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, president of FOWPAL, presented to bell ringers special gifts created by FOWPAL, including the Compass Clock of Conscience, An Anthology of Conscience by Dr. Hong, the “Key to the Heart,” and a book entitled The History of International Day of Conscience. The clock represents time, direction, and goal, guides people toward the right path of life, and reminds them to seize every moment to apply conscience and do good deeds. The anthology is a collection of the excerpts on conscience from Dr. Hong’s speeches presented on various occasions around the globe, which serves as a wellspring of wisdom for the recipients in the promotion of a culture of conscience. The key symbolizes that conscience is the key to unlocking a brighter future for the world. The book entitled The History of International Day of Conscience documents major events leading up to the United Nations’ designation of April 5 as the International Day of Conscience.

Dr. Werner Fasslabend, who is former defense minister of Austria and rang the Bell in 2018, stated that conscience is “a personal regulator, a personal principle that makes you go the right way. And if everybody does it, it will lead into a world of love and peace. Only when there is love in the world, when people try to understand each other, when we try to cooperate, not be against the other side, but to do something in common, then you can reach peace and stability. This is also the basis for freedom.”

The top of the Bell of World Peace and Love is engraved with “Love of the World, A Declaration of Peace.” FOWPAL hopes that people can return to a peaceful world in which there is no pain, no fear, no war, and no suffering. To date, 417 important leaders from 128 countries have rung the Bell, including 49 heads of state and government, seven Nobel Peace Prize laureates, United Nations ambassadors, and leaders from all walks of life. FOWPAL just finished its trip to Stockholm, where it hosted ceremonies of ringing the Bell of World Peace and Love on June 1-3, 2022, during Stockholm+50, and eleven leaders, including environment ministers, UNEP officers, and environmental activists, rang the Bell to pray for the sustainable development of all humanity.

FOWPAL has been actively involved in environmental protection. It participated in the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2002 and hosted ceremonies of ringing the Bell of World Peace and Love, where six visionary leaders, including the then President of Ethiopia Girma Wolde-Giorgis, rang the Bell.

The 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) was held in Rio, Brazil to discuss the challenges and opportunities of sustainable development. During the conference, FOWPAL hosted the ceremony of ringing the Bell of World Peace and Love, and 25 visionary leaders rang the Bell, including the then President of Costa Rica Laura Chinchilla Miranda; President of East Timor and 1996 Nobel Peace Prize laureate José Ramos-Horta; the then Prime Minister of Bhutan Jigme Thinley; Pedro Passos Coelho, the then Prime Minister of Portuguese Republic; and Angel Gurria, the then Secretary General of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), consolidating more positive energy and hope for a sustainable future of love and peace on Earth.

FOWPAL urges everyone to take action to support love, peace, conscience, and human rights. To date, the Declarations for Human Rights of World Citizens and Peace have been endorsed by over 3.7 million people in 179 nations, and the Declaration for the Movement of An Era of Conscience and Declaration of International Day of Conscience have been endorsed by 330,000 people in 196 nations. FOWPAL hopes that everyone will act with conscience so that the world will be peaceful, and that everyone will be joyful so that every family will be happy.

About the Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL): Established in 2000 in the United States by Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, FOWPAL is an international love and peace organization, with members from around the world. Legislator urges ministry to address teachers’ contract issue

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology should promptly accommodate some 193 thousand teachers whose employment contract status had yet to be clarified, a House of Representatives legislator stated.

“Some 193 thousand teachers have test scores that surpassed the passing grade of the contract government employee examination, yet (until now), they receive no teaching assignments,” the House’ Commission X deputy chair, Abdul Fikri Faqih, noted in his statement received here on Saturday.

The legislator spoke of having recorded grievances from teachers that had received no assignment despite having passed the employment examination.

The unclear employment status makes those teachers, paid only on an honorarium basis, live without a stable income, and some of them are even compelled to borrow money from neighbors and relatives to fulfil their daily needs, he pointed out.

Faqih then read aloud a grievance letter written by a teacher, informing that they are now selling their children’s toys after waiting for their teaching assignment for several months.

“That is one true story of our teachers that have, since 2015, been serving (our children). We have no information about the recruitment method, but (they are) employed to fill the teaching vacancies and paid on honorarium basis,” Faqih remarked.

Speaking on the same lines as Faqih, Commission X legislator Ratih Megasari Singkarru also raised concerns over teachers that had passed the employment test but had not yet received any assignment.

“We hope they would not be left behind by the ministry that must defend the teachers’ rights,” she affirmed.

Singkarru also voiced grievances from employees working for the administration and security departments of the school, as employees paid on honorarium basis will be phased out by 2023.

Considering the urgent need to respond to the teachers’ grievances, the two legislators urged the ministry to promptly take action for their welfare.

Botanical gardens helping overcome biodiversity loss: BRIN

Botanical gardens are playing an essential role in helping Indonesia overcome biodiversity loss, acting deputy for research and innovation utilization at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) R. Hendrian has said.

“Progressive conservation activities carried out by botanical gardens are a solution for tackling biodiversity loss,” he said in a statement accessed by ANTARA on BRIN’s official website here on Saturday.

Indonesia is still experiencing biodiversity loss even though deforestation in the country has declined significantly compared to previous years, Hendrian noted.

According to him, the establishment of botanical gardens is very much in line with the green economy that is being promoted currently. Botanical gardens have a role not only in preserving plant diversity but also in encouraging research for the sustainable use of plant diversity.

“Attention to the aspect of utilization needs to be increased, especially to make a more significant contribution to national development,” he stressed.

As a government institution that provides substantive guidance to botanical gardens throughout Indonesia, BRIN has developed 45 botanical gardens, which are managed by the agency, local governments, and universities.

The management of botanical gardens is a long-term task, where the benefits cannot be felt instantly, Hendrian said.

For that reason, solid vision and commitment, consistency, and exceptional power from all stakeholders in the country are needed to maintain the sustainability of botanical garden management, he added.

“Long-term commitment is a non-negotiable prerequisite,” he stressed.

PPIH readies hotels for COVID-19-positive Indonesian Hajj pilgrims

The Indonesian Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) in Saudi Arabia has readied hotels as isolation facilities for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims, who had contracted COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia and experienced no symptoms.

The hotels that have been readied can accommodate around one thousand COVID-19-infected pilgrims.

“This year, for the first time, we provide hotels for isolation that will be utilized if there are COVID-19-positive pilgrims in Mecca and Medina. The capacity readied is one percent of the total number of pilgrims,” Head of the Integrated Hajj Information and Computerization System at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Hasan Affandi stated in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Friday.

In addition to providing isolation hotels, he affirmed that the Indonesian government is preparing a health insurance scheme for Hajj pilgrims infected with COVID-19 and in need of medical treatment in hospitals.

Nevertheless, Affandi is optimistic that all Indonesian Hajj pilgrims would be in good health until they returned to Indonesia.

Earlier, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani had urged the government to guarantee the availability of health services for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims following the report of an uptick in COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia.

Maharani conveyed her request following reports from the Health Ministries of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates regarding a spike in COVID-19 cases. As many as 1,029 cases were reported as of Wednesday (June 8), and the maximum number of cases were recorded in Riyadh.

This year, Saudi Arabia has allowed one million pilgrims from various countries to perform Hajj pilgrimage. Indonesia has been allotted a quota of 100,051 people for the pilgrimage.

Although it has given permission for foreign pilgrims to perform Hajj, Saudi Arabia has laid down two conditions for them this year. First, pilgrims must not be older than 65 years and must have received the full dose of any COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Saudi Health Ministry.

Second, pilgrims traveling from abroad must have a certificate showing a negative PCR result, with the test taken no more than 72 hours prior to departure.

Standard inpatient class to ensure equal medical services: govt

The Presidential Staff Office fully supports the trial of the standard inpatient class (KRIS) in July 2022, which is expected to provide equal medical services through the Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan).

The implementation of KRIS is mandated by Law No. 40 of 2004 on the National Social Security System (SJSN), Presidential Staff Office’s expert main staff, Noch Tiranduk Mallisa, noted in an official statement issued on Saturday.

The goal is to provide equal health facilities and services to BPJS Kesehatan members.

Thus, classes 1, 2, and 3 that exist in the National Health Insurance and Healthy Indonesia Card (JKN-KIS) program will be eliminated.

“This KRIS humanizes the people. It aligns with the law’s mandate, which states that everyone has the same right to receive health facilities and services,” Mallisa remarked.

In the early stage, the KRIS program will be tested in vertical hospitals owned by the Health Ministry.

This is because, in terms of resources, vertical hospitals have full support from the central government, both in infrastructure fulfillment and budget.

According to the results of field monitoring and verification conducted by the Presidential Staff Office’s team, the ministry’s vertical hospitals in several regions are ready for the KRIS trial.

Mallisa listed several hospitals that were covered by the monitoring and verification, including Dr. Sadjito Hospital in Yogyakarta, Pongtiku Hospital in North Toraja, South Sulawesi, and Reksodiwiryo Indonesian Army Hospital in Padang, West Sumatra.

However, the field verification revealed a number of issues that the vertical hospitals could encounter in implementing KRIS, such as the availability of land and other infrastructures.

“But basically, they are ready for the trial. This is what we continue to push,” he said.

He acknowledged that the implementation of KRIS will not be easy and will necessitate a long transition period.

There are many aspects that will need to be prepared, starting from room facility standards to the reformulation of the hospital fee and tariff.

However, people do not need to worry given that BPJS Kesehatan and hospital services will continue to proceed as usual, he added.

Mallisa said he expects that KRIS implementation in the ministry’s vertical hospitals will be successful so that it can be extended to Indonesian Army-Police hospitals, regional government hospitals, and private hospitals.

At the early stage, KRIS will be implemented in 50 percent of vertical hospitals by determining 9 mandatory criteria from the 12 agreed-upon criteria.

Number of booster dose recipients reaches 47.5 million

At least 47.5 million Indonesians have received the third or booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Saturday, according to the COVID-19 Handling Task Force.

According to data received from the task force by ANTARA here on Saturday, the number of third dose recipients swelled by 76,508 on Saturday, taking the total tally to 47,535,860.

Meanwhile, the number of fully vaccinated people, or those who have received two vaccine doses under the government’s national vaccination program, grew by 33,136 to reach 168,030,935.

The task force data also showed that the number of first dose recipients increased by 25,369 to touch 200,818,541 as of Saturday.

As part of efforts to boost community immunity against COVID-19, the Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021. President Joko Widodo was the first vaccine recipient under the program.

The Indonesian government is targeting to inoculate as many as 208,265,720 citizens across the country.

Therefore, based on the task force data, 96.42 percent of the targeted recipients nationally have received the first vaccine dose, 80.68 percent have received the second dose, and 22.72 percent have received the third dose.

Earlier, spokesperson for the Health Ministry, Mohammad Syahril, informed that so far, booster vaccination coverage has reached 30 percent in only 5 out of 34 Indonesian provinces, namely Bali, Jakarta, Riau Islands, Yogyakarta, and West Java,

Therefore, people must get the booster shot as part of efforts to boost immunity against COVID-19, he said at a press conference accessed online here on Friday.

“Booster dose becomes the power to avoid COVID-19. It is expected to increase the body’s immunity or antibodies,” Syahril added.

Meanwhile, commenting on the recommendation made by epidemiologists on providing the fourth vaccine dose to the community, he said that the government is still discussing it.

Riau Islands has likely entered COVID endemic phase: task force

Riau Islands has potentially entered the endemic phase of COVID-19 as active cases in the province have not exceeded single digits in the past three months, spokesperson for the provincial COVID-19 Handling Task Force said.

“Within the past two to three months, the number of active cases has not reached more than nine people,” Tjejep Yudiana noted here on Saturday.

“If this can remain for six months, if the number of active cases does not reach two digits, then the government can reduce the pandemic status in Riau Islands to endemic,” he added.

According to the task force’s records, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the province is currently pegged at five— two in Batam and three in Karimun.

The central government can decide a province’s COVID-19 endemic status. This calculation for a region is based on the size of the population.

Riau Islands is capable of stemming the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, the province has relatively few active COVID-19 cases, Yudiana said.

Despite this, the people must still be cautious because active cases in a number of provinces in Indonesia have tended to increase in the past three days.

“Implementing the health protocols while interacting in a crowded place is a must,” he said.

The COVID-19 Handling Task Force designated Lingga a green zone about a month ago. Anambas was declared a green zone around two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, five other regions in Riau Islands — Bintan, Karimun, Batam, Tanjungpinang, and Natuna — still have yellow zone status, or are considered areas with low infection risk.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, had said that the government will monitor the development of the pandemic situation for two months before changing the status to endemic.

“We all have to stand united in facing this (COVID-19 pandemic) because we cannot go on like this for too long,” the minister said during a working meeting with the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Thursday.
