2022 G20 Summit to positively impact Labuan Bajo’s creative economy

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno encouraged businesses in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara’s prominent tourist destination, to derive maximum mileage from the G20 Summit, hosted by Indonesia in 2022, to reap benefits.

President Joko Widodo selected Labuan Bajo, an entry gate to Komodo National Park, to host the G20 Summit in 2022 and the ASEAN Summit in 2023.

Uno expressed belief that the summit would offer momentum to Labuan Bajo to promote itself amid the current blow to the tourism and creative economy sectors by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This would be an opportunity to conduct promotion and draw investments for reviving our economy in a comprehensive manner, in particular for breathing new life into the tourism and creative economy sectors amid the pandemic,” Uno remarked in a statement released on Friday.

The minister emphasized that this event should offer a platform for promoting products of micro, small, and medium enterprises of Labuan Bajo to expand their market globally, thereby projected to also gain more foreign visitors.

Labuan Bajo’s tourism sector potential has increased since it gained broad recognition in 2011, Uno noted, adding that the ministry will be working on its infrastructure, interconnectivity, and human resources.

Minister Uno recently visited the five super-priority tourist destinations in order to boost economic recovery in line with the president’s instructions. Uno had recently paid a visit to Bali and Toba Lake.
