Optiwave Introduces OptiSPICE plugin for Tanner

Optiwave’s OptiSPICE Plugin enables optoelectronic circuit simulation in Tanner EDA tools from Mentor, a Siemens business

OTTAWA, Jan. 29, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Optiwave Systems Inc., the leading provider of optical component and system design tools, today announced the immediate availability of its OptiSPICE plugin for Tanner. As a result of a collaboration between Optiwave and Mentor, a Siemens business, OptiSPICE optical models supporting Tanner GPIC PDK are now available.

The seamless integration of OptiSPICE optical models into the Tanner photonic flow helps enables the simulation of complex optoelectronic circuits from schematic and/or mask layout. Time and frequency domain simulations with experimentally or numerically verified electrical and optical models can now be launched from an S-Edit schematic and evaluated using a single simulation engine, T-Spice. With the addition of OptiSPICE optical models, Mentor’s Tanner photonic flow can offer an excellent environment for optoelectronic circuit designs with highly nonlinear components, control circuits and feedback loops.

“A co-simulation interface with OptiSPICE and T-Spice has been co-developed by the two companies. This helps enable simulation between the optical domain and the transistor domain to validate that the PIC works in conjunction with the interface circuitry,” said Greg Lebsack, General Manager, IC Design Solutions at Mentor, a Siemens business. “The photonic and interface designs now can be validated simultaneously via cross domain simulation.”

Flash flooding swamps numerous homes in Ijen, Bondowoso, East Java

Bondowoso, East Java (ANTARA) – A flash flood submerged hundreds of homes in Sempol Village, Ijen Sub-district, Bondowoso District, East Java Province, on Wednesday.

Muddy floodwaters inundated Sempol after unremitting torrential rains in the Mount Suket area in Jampit, Kukuh Triyatmoko, head of the Bondowoso disaster mitigation office, stated.

Floodwaters and mud, reaching a height of nearly 30 centimeters, submerged some 200 homes in Sempol, he noted.

“Some 200 homes are estimated to have been affected by the flooding, but we are yet collecting precise data. No reports of casualties have, so far, been received,” he remarked.

The flooding was triggered by downpour lashing over two hours in the upstream Mount Suket area, near a coffee plantation.

Indonesia is currently experiencing wet rainy season after being hit by prolonged drought that has resulted in a water crisis in several provinces.

In Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra, six people lost their lives, while three went missing in flash floods, according to the Central Tapanuli Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD). Flooding due to torrential rain submerged seven villages in Barus Sub-district, Central Tapanuli District, North Sumatra, on early Wednesday morning.

The flooding also caused injuries to 22 people and inundated some 700 homes, Agus Haryanto, Secretary of the Central Tapanuli BPBD, confirmed on Wednesday.

“The latest data indicated that six people died, while three were declared missing. The dead victims are yet being identified,” he noted.

The flood-affected villages were Kampung Mudik, Pasar Terandam, Bungo Tanjung, Kinali, Ujung Batu, Batu Gerigis, and Padang Masiang.

Evacuation posts and health posts have been established in the district to handle residents affected by the natural disaster.

Meanwhile, in Batanghari District, Jambi Province, at least 16 villages were inundated, as the Batanghari River overflowed its bank since the past one week.

“Some 16 villages in six sub-districts are affected by the flooding,” Samral, secretary of the Batanghari Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD), stated on Wednesday.

Indonesian student in Wuhan welcomes govt’s planned evacuation

Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) – An Indonesian student from South Sulawesi Province currently stranded in Wuhan enthusiastically welcomes the government’s plan to evacuate Indonesian citizens from this China’s epicenter of deadly new coronavirus outbreak.

“We are thankful and hopeful for the planned evacuation being prepared by the government,” said Patmawaty Taibe who is taking up PhD in Psychology Program at the Central China Normal University in Wuhan on Thursday.

She said she follows the Indonesian media reports on the government’s concerns with the fate of its citizens in Wuhan, the city that the Chinese Government has put in lockdown to halt the spread of the virus which has killed at least 132 people in China.

The Indonesian Government has been preparing all needed for conducting an immediate and proper evacuation mission while waiting for the Chinese authorities’ permit to do that.

“We are so happy to hear the news. May almighty God make all efforts get easily executed,” said Taibe, a teaching staff of the Bosowa University in Makassar, South Sulawesi Province, in her Whatsapp message.

The government’s plan to evacuate its citizens from Wuhan was unveiled by Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He confirmed that the government was making preparations to evacuate Indonesian citizens from the city.

“In fact, we, the government, have prepared to conduct the evacuation. However, Wuhan has become an isolated area, so no one can enter or leave. As a consequence, everything in on hold, pending the stance of the Chinese government,” Amin noted.

The government will evacuate Indonesian citizens from Wuhan, where the corona virus originated, once the isolation status in the city is revoked, he explained.

The Indonesian government is also awaiting information from the World Health Organization (WHO) over the status of a public health emergency due to the corona virus.

“Our government is ready. If there is a possibility, we will evacuate. However, the government continues to pay attention to our people, especially those in Wuhan,” he stated.

Chinese authorities declared the first case of coronavirus after a person with pneumonia was hospitalized in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, according to an official statement of the WHO.

Over the past weeks, people, with symptoms of pneumonia and reported travel history to Wuhan, had been identified at international airports.
