Philips expands its range of consumer-focused digital health solutions at CES 2020

With the mission to improve oral care outcomes, BrushSmart® [1] is designed to connect brushing behaviors at home with professional dental care to better understand, motivate and drive improvements in oral health and overall wellness. Under the program, members who agree to collect and share real-time oral care brushing data from their Philips Sonicare connected toothbrush will benefit from exclusive oral care product and service offerings, including the Philips Sonicare ExpertClean toothbrush and free brush heads when they brush regularly. Following the success of Philips free Pregnancy+ app for IOS and Android devices, which currently boasts close to 30 million downloads worldwide, Philips is now introducing another free app called Baby+. While Pregnancy+ is designed to support parents from the moment they know they are expecting a new baby, Baby+ provides them with a dedicated tool to track their baby’s growth and receive ongoing advice specific to each stage of their baby’s development from the moment he or she is born. Designed in close collaboration with healthcare professionals and existing parents, both apps offer bespoke expert information in the form of articles, information and trackers, bringing a feel-good factor to pregnancy and the first two years of parenthood with beautiful, informative and helpful content, accompanied by clinical back up and expert advice. Baby+, which can track multiple babies in the same family (e.g. twins or closely born siblings) also allows parents to create a yearbook or use the app’s face-a-day function to capture their baby’s growth and share precious moments with other family members. As part of its goal of addressing more than 80% of all sleep issues worldwide, Philips is introducing the latest evolution in its SmartSleep suite of solutions at CES 2020; the SmartSleep Deep Sleep Headband 2. Philips designed the next generation Deep Sleep Headband using consumer sleep data, ongoing research alongside sleep physicians, and feedback from early adopters to deliver an end-to-end sleep experience. The latest model continues to actively improve deep sleep for those who do not get enough sleep due to lifestyle, while introducing new features. New Fall Asleep Sounds help soothe the wearer to sleep, while SmartAlarm helps wake the wearer in their lightest stage of sleep within approximately 5-30 minutes of their desired wake time. Mitsubishi Motors and Otonomo Partner to Deliver Connected Car Applications and Services to Benefit Drivers and Cities

Mitsubishi Motors’ drivers in Europe and North America will be able to take advantage of new apps and services based on connected car data

Wi-Fi Alliance® brings Wi-Fi 6 into 6 GHz

Wi-Fi 6E will rapidly deliver benefits in 6 GHz once available

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 06, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Wi-Fi Alliance® is introducing new terminology to distinguish forthcoming Wi-Fi 6 devices that are capable of 6 GHz operation, an important portion of unlicensed spectrum that may soon be made available by regulators around the world. Wi-Fi 6E brings a common industry name for Wi-Fi® users to identify devices that will offer the features and capabilities of Wi-Fi 6 – including higher performance, lower latency, and faster data rates – extended into the 6 GHz band. Wi-Fi 6E devices are expected to become available quickly following 6 GHz regulatory approvals, utilizing this additional spectrum capacity to deliver continuous Wi-Fi innovation and valuable contributions to consumers, businesses and economies.

Destroyed school buildings extend Lebak’s students’ stay at home

Lebak, Banten (ANTARA) – On Monday, Indonesia’s elementary, middle, and high school students began learning activities after lengthy holidays, though their peers, suffering extensively from the impacts of flash floods and landslides in Banten, were yet unable to attend.

Some 1,253 elementary and junior high school students in Lebak Gedong Sub-district, Lebak District, Banten Province, for instance, yet stayed at home on Monday since their schools remained closed owing to the catastrophe that struck on January 1, 2020.

“We plan to resume teaching and learning activities on January 12,” Secretary of Lebak District’s Education and Culture Office Abdul Malik stated.

Lebak Gedong Sub-district’s areas bore the maximum impact of the flash floods and landslides in early January during which several school buildings got swamped. Among those inundated were the public junior high schools of SMPN 1, SMPN 2, SMPN 3, SMPN 4, SDN 1, and SDN II Banjarsari.

“The SMPN 4 and SDN II Banjarsari school buildings were also affected by the floodwaters and landslide,” Malik stated, adding that some 1,253 students and 27 teaching and administrative staff members were directly affected by the catastrophe.

The number of affected students, teachers, and administrative staffers could likely increase since the authorities are yet accruing data on the recent disaster that also caused damage to road sections and bridges.

“We hope the accurate data on teachers and students, affected by this catastrophe, would have been finalized,” he added.

According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), this early January’s flash floods and landslides had killed 60 people and resulted in two others going missing.

The flooding swamped a wide range of areas in various sub-districts in the provinces of Jakarta, West Jakarta, and Banten, the agency’s spokesman, Agus Wibowo, noted in a press statement.

The flash floods, caused by high-intensity rainfall over the past three days, swamped several areas of 18 sub-districts in Bekasi District, 17 sub-districts in Jakarta, and 13 sub-districts in Bogor District and Tangerang City respectively.

The disaster also affected 12 sub-districts in Bekasi City, 11 sub-districts in Depok City, and six sub-districts in Lebak District, Bogor City, and Tangerang Selatan City respectively, Wibowo stated.

Consequently, floodwaters, submerging houses, led to the forced displacement of 149,537 residents of Bekasi City in West Java Province. They were accommodated at 97 temporary shelters, while 11,474 Jakartans also took refuge and stayed at 66 temporary shelters.

Five witnesses in Jakarta’s building collapse face police questioning

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Criminal Investigation Unit of the West Jakarta Police interrogated five witnesses in connection with the building collapse incident in Palmerah, West Jakarta, on Monday.

Chief of the West Jakarta Police Crime Unit Police Commissioner Teuku Arsya remarked that the five witnesses were employees of the convenience store located in the collapsed building.

“The employees are being questioned as witnesses. There are five people,” he noted in Jakarta on Monday.

The owner and tenants of the four-story building were reportedly outside the city when the incident took place.

As earlier reported, a four-story building collapsed on Brigjen Katamso Street in Kota Bambu Selatan, Palmerah, West Jakarta, on Monday morning.

Part of the building served as a convenience store/mini market.

At around 9:15 a.m. local time, the building’s top and second floors caved in, while the ground floor that served as a minimarket was not completely destroyed. Several vehicles were observed to be crushed by the rubble.

A total of 11 people were affected when the building caved in and were successfully evacuated and taken to the Tarakan Regional Hospital and Pelni Hospital Jakarta.
