Cisco Releases New Developer Capabilities Across Its Intent-Based Networking Platform

ORLANDO, Fla., June 12, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — CISCO LIVE — Cisco today announced that it has released new developer capabilities across its intent-based networking platform. These advancements underscore Cisco’s continued progress in delivering an open, programmable platform that spans the entire network, from campus to data center, branch to edge. By providing an open network, Cisco is empowering 500,000 developers, 60,000 partners and three million network engineers to innovate upon the platform.

Intent-based networking represents a fundamental shift in the way networks are built and managed. Moving away from the manual, time-intensive methods by which networks are traditionally managed, these modern networks capture business intent and translate it into network policies. These policies are then automatically activated across the entire infrastructure, with the assurance that the business intent was delivered as planned.

Today, Cisco is releasing new developer tools and open APIs into Cisco DNA™ Center — the command and control center for campus, branch and edge intent-based networks. DNA Center turns the network from a combination of hardware devices into a single system. With the availability of network-wide APIs, Cisco now allows developers to easily program this system, tapping into all of the analytics and insight the network can provide.

With a rich API catalog, DNA Center allows customers to protect and inform their business like never before.

Elevating network intelligence into business operations: DNA Center helps enable developers to program the network as a single system through intent-based APIs. Now, developers can more easily create a new generation of network-aware applications, and partners can integrate the network into business processes.

Streamline IT processes across functions: DNA Center helps enable network IT administrators to exchange information to automate processes across IT systems through software adapters. Now, IT can move resources from operation to innovation.

Managing multi-vendor networks: DNA Center gives developers and partners the flexibility to support multi-vendor networks via a software developer kit (SDK). This allows customers to simplify the complexity of heterogeneous networks and manage them consistently, as a single system.

Today, Cisco is announcing three new developer initiatives to fuel its innovation ecosystem:

  • DevNet Ecosystem Exchange makes it easy to find and share an application or solution built for Cisco platforms. Business leaders and developers alike can use this online portal to discover partner solutions that span all Cisco platforms and products. It contains over 1,300 solutions.
  • DevNet Code Exchange gives developers a place to access and share software to quickly build next-generation applications and workflow integrations. A curated list of sample code, adaptors, tools, and SDKs is available on GitHub and written by Cisco and the DevNet community. Code Exchange spans Cisco’s entire portfolio and is organized according to Cisco platform and product areas.
  • DevNet DNA Developer Center is a one-stop-shop for developers to build applications and integrations on the DNA Center platform. It provides comprehensive resources, capabilities, use cases and learning materials for developers.

Radware Survey Finds Majority of Companies Paid a Hacker’s Ransom Over the Past Year

Businesses Face Increasing Legal and Technology Challenges When Securing Their Networks

MAHWAH, N.J., June 12, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Radware® (NASDAQ:RDWR), a leading provider of cyber security and application delivery solutions, released its 2018 Executive Application and Network Security Report. For the first time in the survey’s five-year history, a majority of executives (53%) reported paying a hacker’s ransom following a cyber-attack. This comes as technology and privacy concerns present greater challenges in improving overall security posture.

“A ransom payment may make the problem go away for now, but these types of responses won’t drive a business forward,” said Anna Convery-Pelletier, Chief Marketing Officer at Radware. “A reactionary security strategy limits an organization’s ability to secure customer data, protect their brand’s reputation, and achieve business goals. Investing in appropriate security solutions is no longer simply an IT expense, it is fundamental to a business’ long term success.”

According to the report, 69% of executives said that their company faced a ransom attack in the past year, compared with only 14% noting so in 2016. Meanwhile, two-thirds of executives (66%) report a lack of confidence in their network security, admitting their networks are penetrable by hackers.

Beyond more frequent ransom payments, organizations are facing significant consequences and concerns related to cyber-attacks. In a sign that consumers will not accept data breaches, 41% of executives noted their organization faced legal action from customers following a breach. At the same time, executives stated that their biggest concerns associated with cyber-attacks are customer loss (41%) and brand reputation loss (34%).

In the midst of all this, organizations still struggle to implement tools that would drastically improve their cybersecurity posture. While more than one in three (35%) executives noted that encrypted attacks would be detrimental to their organization, 41% reported that they continue to review the legalities of decrypting traffic on their network, a process needed to significantly reduce the threat of encrypted threats.

In addition, Radware’s 2018 Executive Application & Network Security Report revealed:

Have we reached an automation tipping point? The complexity of networks and changing attack vectors have led companies to invest in automated and machine-learning security tools. Over the past two years, 71% of executives report shifting network security spending to investments in automated security.

Gaps between clouds create major security risk. More than 90% of executives report using multiple public and private cloud environments as part of their companies’ IT infrastructure, and most companies host up to 50% of their business applications in the cloud. C-suite executives clearly understand that dispersing their network across multiple public and private clouds introduces security risks however. The vast majority of respondents (96%) are very or somewhat concerned about network vulnerabilities created by using multiple clouds.

“Businesses are trying to increase operational efficiency by moving to cloud infrastructure,” continued Convery-Pelletier. “Spreading apps across the cloud can increase network agility, improve scalability, and manage cost. However, most organizations only secure the individual cloud environments, and without looking at securing the network as a whole, they create gaps between the clouds.”

Executives reveal their most detrimental security threats: 38% of executives report daily or weekly attacks. Executives feared social engineering (38%), Ransomware (38%) and Malware (37%) as the most detrimental to their business, followed closely by IoT botnet powered DDoS attacks (35%), and Encrypted (35%) attacks.

Nation state attacks motivate security upgrades for American organizations. U.S. executives in particular were more likely than their peers in EMEA and APAC to say that attacks by nation-states have influenced security changes. More than half of U.S. executives pointed to nation-state threats as a motivator, while just 30% in the APAC region, and 41% in the EMEA region said so.

Companies react when peers are attacked. Approximately 61% of executives said that watching attacks on peer companies influenced their decision to change security policy. Almost as many, 59%, said attacks on their own organizations had prompted changes in their security posture.

Methodology:

On behalf of Radware, Merrill Research surveyed 232 executives from across the globe. To participate in the 2018 Executive Application & Network Security respondents were required to be a company with at least 250 million USD/EUR/GBP/RMB in revenue and hold a title of senior vice president level or higher. By design, the survey required at least half respondents to be C-level executives, though this year’s research attracted far more C-level corporate leaders. About half of the companies in the survey have 1,000 to 9,999 employees, averaging about 3,700. American respondents skewed highest in average number of employees at nearly 4,300.

Indonesian students promote Sundanese culture in nanning

Nanning, China, June 12 (ANTARA News) – A number of Indonesian students in Nanning, China, performed a play to promote Sundanese (West Java) culture, with a title “Sangkuriang dan Tujuh Bidadari,” or literally meaning “Sangkuriang and the Seven Beautiful Angels.”

“Every year, we perform an art play, and this year, we have selected the Sundanese culture,” the chairperson of the Indonesian Students Association (PPI) of Nanning, Annisa Harapuspa, told Antara in Beijing on Tuesday.

She stated that the cultural party of “Portray of Sundanese” was held on Saturday (June 9) night at a Concert Hall of the Faculty of Art, Guangxi University for Nationalities (GUN).

The performance began with a fashion show of traditional dresses brought by Chinese students who majored in Bahasa Indonesia.

“We did not expect the audiences enthusiasm to be so high that we could not accommodate them in the hall,” Harapuspa, who was accompanied by Khanti Brillianty, as the organizer of “Portray of Sundanese,” noted.

Seventy Indonesian students and Chinese students were involved in the event, which was held at the Capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region bordering with Vietnam.

Some of the honorary guests who attended the event were Indonesian Consul General in Guangzhou Gustanto, Dean of Education Faculty at GUN Cui Wanan, former mayor of Nanning Ke Ziqing, Vice Dean of Southeast Asian Language and Culture Faculty of GUN Lu Jinqiang, and Deputy Director of International Department of GUN Zhang Xinlei.

“We want to introduce Sundanese culture to Chinese people, especially in Nanning,” Harapuspa revealed.

Indonesian Consul General Gustanto expressed hope that Indonesian students would continue to promote Indonesian traditional cultures through art performances.

“Of course, I appreciate cultural events like this, so that the diversity of our traditional cultures would widely be known in foreign countries,” he added.

GUN is the first university in Nanning which has an Indonesian Language (Bahasa Indonesia) department. To date, there are about 200 students from several areas in mainland China who major in Bahasa Indonesia at the largest university in Guangxi.

The enthusiasm among Chinese students to study Indonesian is very high. Hundreds of students majoring in Indonesian at GUN participated in the selection of Dharmasiswa scholarship program 2018, which was held by the Education Attach? of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Beijing and the RI Consulate General of RI in Guangzhou some time ago.

The Dharmasiswa program awardees have an opportunity to learn Indonesian language for one year at several universities in Indonesia funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia and get allowance during their study in the country.
