Global Green Chemicals Public Company Limited (GGC) in collaboration with the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) in Thailand, the Department of Agriculture, palm oil extraction plants and small-scale palm oil farmers in 4 southern provinces are continuing their success by upgrading from sustainable palm oil production to low-carbon palm oil production.
Executives and representatives from GGC, GIZ, government agencies, and partners in 4 southern palm oil producing provinces, namely Trang, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Chumphon, signed a memorandum of understanding on the Sustainable Palm Oil Production and Procurement Project for Climate Mitigation and Adaptation (SPOPP CLIMA), which is a project that continues the success of the certification of small-scale farmers according to the Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) standards under the Sustainable Palm Oil and Palm Oil Production Project (SPOPP), which is funded by Global Green Chemicals Public Company Limited (GGC), operated by the German Internatio
nal Cooperation Agency (GIZ), and in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture. The project focuses on creating knowledge for small-scale farmers who have passed the RSPO certification in the SPOPP project, enabling them to use existing data to calculate the carbon footprint for fresh palm oil bunches and to have low-carbon plantation management guidelines. Reducing the carbon footprint not only reduces the impact on the environment and climate, but also increases the sustainability of the palm oil industry and creates a good image for Thai palm oil products in the global market.
Mr. Krisada Prasertsukho, Managing Director of GGC, said that GGC drives the organization to achieve the sustainable business strategy, which is in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), covering economic, social and environmental dimensions, to build confidence in sustainable business growth, create value and raise business standards to be recognized both domestically and internationally. As a lead
er in environmental chemical products, we take into account maintaining a balance between implementing business growth strategies and creating sustainable results. We have a goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent by 2030 and to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050, moving towards becoming an organization that supports climate change management through the company’s business operations and product manufacturing. From the success of the Sustainable Palm Oil and Palm Oil Production Project (SPOPP), GGC has linked it to the company’s sustainable business strategy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. GGC and GIZ have a plan to jointly implement the Sustainable Palm Oil and Palm Oil Production Project. To reduce the impact of climate change, the Sustainable Palm Oil Production and Procurement Project for Climate Mitigation and Adaptation (SPOPP CLIMA) in 2024-2027 aims to prepare farmers for palm plantation and reducing agricultural greenhouse gas emissions, assessing carbon footprint
s and carbon credits to be a part of the journey towards GGC’s Net Zero target in 2050 and promoting sustainable palm plantation in line with the EU Deforestation-free Regulations: EUDR, which will come into effect on January 1, 2025, including preparation for various sustainability standards. This cooperation will not only support the sustainable palm oil production process, which will not only help reduce the impact on the environment and climate, but also increase the sustainability of the palm oil industry and promote a good image for Thai palm oil products in the global market.
