“Chalermchai” opens the “Democrat Forum” to discuss the carbon economy, opportunities in the global warming crisis, extreme floods and droughts, indicating that success must be achieved by drawing the public to participate. “Democrat Party” is ready to drive and push for continuous laws.
Mr. Chalermchai Sri-on, leader of the Democrat Party and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, presided over the opening of the first ‘Democrat Forum’ seminar on the topic ‘Carbon Economy: Opportunities in the Crisis of Global Warming, Extreme Floods and Droughts’, which was attended by lively participants from the government, private, and public sectors.
Mr. Chalermchai said that today, no one can ignore the environment. He believes that people of all nations will be most aware when there is a danger approaching them, and it will be the best way to awaken human consciousness. Today, Thailand is the period that is most clearly facing problems from the current and sudden environmental changes, coupled with the dest
ruction of the environment, which has caused severe impacts as seen. Today, Thailand has a population of 70 million people. No matter how much academics, the government, or all sectors devote their energy, it is not equal to the cooperation of the people of the whole country. Today, it is not enough to think that the economy alone leads the world, because one person’s survival does not depend on the economy alone, but on the environment around them, which is becoming a threat to humans themselves. Therefore, we must make the people aware of the environment they are facing. Only then will we be able to successfully drive forward the issue that will be presented today.
‘We can conquer nature in some ways, but we cannot control everything about nature. We have to accept the reality that everything that is happening today is a change and we have to accept that this change is also caused by human actions,’ Mr. Chalermchai reiterated, adding that on the day he became the leader of the Democrat Party, he told the p
arty’s executive board that we had to change our worldview. Many people think that the administration must have a good economic hand for the well-being of the people, but he thinks that something equally important is the environment in which the people live, because we will have to face environmental changes anyway. Therefore, organizing the ‘Democrat Forum’ today is like the best starting point, a starting point to bring the people’s hands together to participate.
Mr. Chalermchai continued that the Democrat Party is ready to support several bills that will take care of the health and hygiene of the people, such as the Clean Air Act and the Climate Change Act, which are under consideration and are waiting to be considered by the House. The Democrat Party will give full support by joining the committee and proposing these bills. Today’s event will be beneficial to the people both in the country and around the world. It will be an indicator to the international community that Thailand is truly moving forward.
If there are other forums on this issue, the Democrat Party is ready to join. As the leader of the Democrat Party and the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, I will drive this issue as best as I can and will do so continuously, cooperating with the public sector as much as possible.
